Coloma Outdoor Discovery School (CODS) has been providing outdoor education programs since 1990. Currently our program offers students a 1–3-day experience in California Gold Rush history. Our program has an excellent reputation for employing professional naturalist educators who are excellent role models, teachers, and well-educated individuals.
Currently hiring for our Spring 2025 (January – May) season. Full and Part time positions available. Daytime or Evening.
Responsibilities:
Educating, supervising, and empowering students.
Initiate learning in many formats: at meals, in the field, on the trail, and in large (75+) or small (12-16 students) groups.
Continuous personal development of teaching skills and background knowledge of subject areas.
Promote positive communication among staff, students, teachers, and chaperones.
Model environmentally sustainable behavior and ethics.
Regularly manage teaching supplies and equipment.
Collaborate with staff and organization leaders to continually upgrade academic and logistical aspects of program.
Qualifications:
Ability to conduct skits, songs and/or stories in front of large groups of children & adults
Ability to work independently as well as cooperatively with others
Experience working with people, enjoyment of all kinds of people, especially children aged 9-11
Excellent communication skills
Love working outdoors – rain or shine
Creative, fun, and energetic!
Physically fit- able to stand and walk/ hike for an 8-hour shift
Preferred- BA or BS in field of education, science, history, or related experience
Current CPR and First Aid certification (online certification does not apply)
Current California Food Handler certification
May acquire after hire.
Position is non-exempt. Starts at $22 for qualified applicants. Some meals, but no housing is provided for staff.
