Position Purpose:As a Senior Buyer, you will strategize with our sales team and division leadership to determine the viability of new products, research vendors, present proposals, and implement programs for retail consumers. You will work with large and small vendors alike to create sustainable and successful partnerships to add value for all our vendors, our customers, and ourselves. A successful candidate will have effectively demonstrated an ability to analyze and create strategies intended to improve category performance through the development and execution of strategic business plans.Primary Responsibilities:
Reviewing & maintaining inventory levels to ensure sufficient turns, ordering, and customer needs.
Maintaining promotions, plans, and allowances in mainframe systems.
Communicating with supplies and/or carriers to arrange purchase orders (PO’s)
Preparing and tracking PO’s from order confirmation for the warehouse.
Identifying & creating solutions to a variety of inventory conditions.
Growing a diverse array of items and suppliers to add to product lines.
Managing financial performance of assigned categories and vendors.
Collaborating with suppliers to develop and execute marketing programs.
Leading the strategic direction of the supplier relationships.
Developing and communicating specific performance metrics and goals relevant to each supplier.
Providing overall category leadership to shape the product portfolios.
Negotiating all elements of assigned supplier relationships.
Providing analysis and recommendations on relevant products.
Interacting with category industry organizations and monitor publications.
Maintaining industry knowledge of organizational and governmental rules.
Building professional and successful supplier relationships.
Preparing reports and records related to buying and inventory activities.
Travel may be required for this position.
Required Qualifications:
Four-year degree in a related field, or equivalent experience/training is preferred but not necessary.
Five or more years of related experience as a Category Analyst/Category Manager/Buyer, or five or more years of combined buying, planning, sales, and allocation responsibilities are preferred.
Ability to communicate effectively, assimilate information, and make decisions.
Ability to analyze multiple forms of data as it relates to the decision-making process.
Demonstrated professional leadership and negotiation abilities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, such as Excel, and Windows-based programs.
Familiarity and working knowledge of AS400 and SAP.
Strong marketing, merchandising, product, trend, and analytical skills.
Understanding of infometrics, Nielsen, or IRI data.
Ability to interact effectively with a wide variety of customers.
Knowledge of the principles and practices of Procurement, Sales, and Marketing.
Prior knowledge about market trends, conditions, tonnage, seasonality, perishability, and inventory.
