Under the supervision of a Principal of the company, apply civil and structural engineering principles and techniques to design and analyze commercial and industrial building structures using computer software such as AutoCAD, MathCAD, Enercale, etc. Read and study codes such as ASCE, CBC building codes to update knowledge of structural engineering. Communicate with city, county and state authorities to guarantee that civil/structural engineering designs meet all the governmental requirements. Conduct studies of environmental conditions to identify engineering problems and assess potential project impact. Estimate quantities and cost of materials, equipment, or labor to determine project feasibility. Inspect project sites to monitor progress and ensure conformance to design specifications and safety or sanitation standards. Compute load and grade requirements, water flow rates, or material stress factors to determine design specifications. Grade designs for developed/undeveloped properties. Liaise with other designers, engineers and architects to ensure that designs are in compliance with safety requirements and also fit to the aesthetic concepts of construction. Participate in surveying to lay out installations or establish reference points, grades, or elevations to guide construction.
