Position description

The UCLA department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences (AOS) is seeking outstanding candidates for a full-time Assistant Adjunct Professor position. This Assistant Adjunct Professor position will function as Academic Director of Meteorology, who will lead weather-related educational activities, engage with the broader weather forecasting community, provide weather-related expertise in the department and contribute to the teaching and practical training of the next generation of Atmospheric Science professionals in the department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences at UCLA. The successful candidate will be responsible for (1) building and maintaining strong connections to the meteorological forecasting community, building relationships with organizations that can offer internships to undergraduate and graduate students, (2) contributing to undergraduate and masters-level teaching, including introductory and advanced courses in the broad area of meteorology and atmospheric sciences, (3) advising students in career development for weather forecasting and related fields, and (4) serving as the main point of contact for meteorology and weather information in the department, including management of campus weather station data and weather forecasting for field campaigns and if desired, the campus. It is hoped that these activities will contribute to the growth of the undergraduate majors in AOS and to ensuring AOS majors have the option of a track that leads them to be well prepared and qualified for work in the National Weather Service. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to conduct research if desired.
