Canyon View Ranch Dog Trainer

Responsible for training dogs for basic obedience on and off leash at Canyon View Ranch, documents progress of each individual dog, communicates and performs lessons with dog owners.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Prior experience working as a dog trainer

Train dogs basic obedience commands in the technique taught at Canyon View Ranch

Make phone calls to clients regarding training progress of their dog

Take phone calls from prospective clients with questions about training

Document each dogs progress

Perform 45-60 minute lessons with the dog and it’s owner(s)

Supervise dogs in outdoor group play

Observe dogs and report behavioral issues or health concerns

Prevent and break up dog fights

Assist clients

Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Certificates, licenses and registrations required: Driver's License

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Ability to work as part of a team, complete tasks unsupervised according to a timetable, and communicates clearly to coworkers and supervisors.

Keep calm under pressure, identify and respond quickly to events and situations involving risk to dogs' health and safety.

COMPETENCIES: PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIORNMENT: Additional remarks regarding physical demands: Lifting and moving bags of dog food up to 40lbs, handling large dogs on leash and lifting up dogs weighing 50lbs four feet vertically to a grooming table or kennel. In the event of a dog fight, all employees must be able to run quickly to the dogs involved and use proper and safe techniques to break up the fight. Techniques will be taught during employee training.

Appearance and Performance –Reflects a positive image of Canyon View Ranch to the public, including appropriate attire, friendly interaction with dogs, and quieting any barking using proper voice control.

External Working Relationships –Develops and maintains courteous and effective working relationships with clients, vendors and/or any other representatives of external organizations.

Business Necessity –The needs of the employer may be dependent on responding to and anticipating rapidly changing external and internal demands in all aspects of how business is conducted. This may include, but is not limited to, organization structure, finances, goals, personnel, work processes, technology, and customer demands. Therefore, it may become necessary to make modifications to how business is conducted and work is accomplished, with minimal or no advance notice to employees. Accordingly the employee must be capable of adapting, with minimal or no advance notice, to changes in how business is conducted and work is accomplished, with no diminishment in work performance.

While performing the duties of this job, the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

The employee must occasionally lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.
