Job DescriptionJob SummaryThe Parker Lab is focused on Cardiovascular Physiology and Proteomics. Our projects are on the development of and application of cardiovascular physiology and protein quantification techniques for studying specific cellular pathways at the molecular level and for verification of protein candidate biomarkers for diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutics from cells, tissues, and biofluids for vascular, heart, ovarian cancer, and other diseases. The postdoctoral scientist will work independently with close mentorship by Dr. Sarah J Parker to develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques and protocols in support of ongoing projects pertaining to modeling vascular diseases using existing and novel (developed by the candidate) approaches for tissue engineering. The postdoctoral scientist will be expected to adapt published protocols for tissue engineered blood vessels systems for use and deployment in the lab toward the study of human marfan syndrome aneurysm and dissection, and then will be expected to expand vascular engineering capabilities to other model systems related to the candidates interests. The PDF will also be expected to develop analytical tools to quantify engineered vessel physiology, as well as 2D cellular physiology, using imaging systems, machine learning algorithms, and other relevant techniques. He/she will be expected to develop grant proposals either independently or by working collaboratively with department directors or other faculties. He/she will design and perform experiments and develop, adapt, and implement new research techniques. He/she will perform routine and complex laboratory procedures.Other duties include participation in research/academic meetings, performing calculations, tabulating data, summarizing methods and results of related experiments, etc. He/she will be expected to function efficiently and cooperatively with a team of faculty, research associates, technicians and students.QualificationsEducation :The candidate must hold a Doctorate (PhD) in a field related to biology, biochemistry, physiology, or an area that is directly translatable to proteomics-based biomedical research. Experience in animal models, cell culture techniques, chemistry is strongly favored.Experience :Works independently on research projects designed in conjunction with mentor (typically the PI) within the realm of cardiovascular proteomics. A demonstrated aptitude to perform experimental protocols and procedures, including detailed data collection, and analysis and operation and maintenance of specialized equipment. Knowledge of and adherence to safety standards and maintenance of specialized equipment is required.About UsCedars-Sinai is a leader in providing high-quality healthcare encompassing primary care, specialized medicine and research.
