Loving Family seeks:
Wonderful, compassionate, intelligent, kind, warm-hearted, good-humored, patient reliable assistant with great work ethic for our 35 year old daughter who is disabled with cerebral palsy and wanting to live her best life. You must have a yoga background (or dance), be strong and have good body sense. If you have back or other injuries this is not a good job for you.
It is also important to us that you live in close proximity to Mar Vista. If you live further away than a 30 minute (in full traffic) drive, this is also not the job for you (even if you love to drive). Mar Vista is between Venice & Culver City.
Our daughter is a very sweet, interesting, ambitious young woman who is very physically challenged with cerebral palsy. She LOVES yoga and practices 4 or 5 times per week. giving and getting massages, reading books and poetry, listening to music and hanging out with loved ones.
While she is physically active, her disability is such that she can walk only with assistance, has limited use of her hands (so cannot feed herself), and cannot speak verbally, but communicates with either the use of a computer speech device or by using a unique method we call “Spell prompting”.
The job includes:
Putting her through her yoga practice twice per week once at home and once at a yoga class)
Two shifts per week include cooking her healthy organic meals (not completely vegetarian)
Putting our daughter through a morning stretch routine, taking her out to her sanctuary type yard for a jacuzzi and some sunning if the weather is nice
Showering her (for this reason she prefers females only….sorry guys!
Sometimes assisting her mother in putting her through a variety of pilates and other fitness routines
Taking her places and possibly accompanying her to family/social events, active listening.
Occasional light assistance with her computer.
Taking her to the bathroom and assisting her with personal hygiene (For this reason also she prefers females only)
Some kitchen clean up and other light clean up including making the bed.

You would also be learning our daughter's unique communication method. You must be a proficient speller (English). All shifts require utilizing her communication method to facilitate communication.
Sometimes there is occasional vacation travel with our daughter…fun but not required.
Some shifts very occasionally (not required) include staying at her home overnight. You would basically be paid to sleep with the exception of taking her to the bathroom once per night.

It is essential that our person be completely reliable. Our daughter needs a stable environment she can thrive in. We can't afford to have anyone who is flaky in anyway!
While no full body lifting is needed, you do need to be strong to move our daughter around. Fortunately, our daughter is quite small (weighing approximately 74 lbs) but it still does take strength and general body awareness to move her around safely. Having your own exercise practice is helpful.
Our daughter currently has two roommates who are also assistants to her. We need to find people who are flexible and can help cover other peoples shifts at times. The bright side is that other’s would also be able to cover yours at times. Because there is too much training involved for someone who will only be around for a few months we need someone who will be around for at least one year!

(Just as a note, I have included video so people can learn a bit about our daughter, but she is not seeking an art assistant at this time).

Thursdays 9:30-2
Fridays 8-5
Sundays 8-3pm
