Environmental Technician
Full Time Non-Exempt
$21.00 - $24.00/hour DOE
Ukiah, CA
Description
The Environmental Technician applies general knowledge and skills to assist in the management of private and public forest lands for economic, recreational, and conservation purposes. Compiles data pertaining to size, content, condition, and other characteristics of forest wildlands, under the direction of Environmental Analysts, Scientists, or Technical Specialists. Completes work to set timescales and within project budgets. Produces deliverables/products to specifications. Reports progress, issues, and other pertinent project information to supervisors.
Responsibilities
Survey, measure, and map access roads and forest areas.
Provide information about regulations such as those concerning environmental protection, resource utilization, and fire safety.
Project design and administration.
Flag Watercourse and Lake Protection Zones (WLPZ).
Timber marking.
Timber cruising.
Documentation preparation for permits or licenses for forestry operations.
Map development/GIS.
Maintenance of field equipment.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Operation of all-terrain vehicles (ATVs and 4WD vehicles)
Operation of hand tools (chain saw, clinometer, compass, loggers tape)
BAF tools (prisms, cruising crutch, cruise-all)
Hypsometer (laser rangefinder, ultra-sonic)
Inventory management software (Forsee)
Map creation (Google Earth and ESRI ArcGIS)
Mobile mapping (tablet computer, external GPS, mobile mapping software)
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Experience with Gmail and Google Calendar
Education
Requires a Bachelor of Science degree in a Natural Resource field.
