Job DescriptionAs an Inpatient Pharmacy Technician, you will assist in the provision of pharmaceutical services including drug preparation, distribution, inventory control, quality control, and proper documentation according to policy and procedure. You will perform billing, pricing, record keeping, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. The role also involves maintaining records of drug distribution, working with vendors, and interpreting, transcribing, and dispensing orders/prescriptions under the direction of a pharmacist.Responsibilities
Assist in the preparation, distribution, and documentation of pharmaceutical services.
Perform billing, pricing, and record-keeping tasks to meet regulatory requirements.
Maintain records of drug distribution and work with vendors to requisition or return drugs.
Interpret, transcribe, and dispense orders/prescriptions under the direction of a pharmacist.
Ensure routine and priority tasks are completed within established departmental time frames.
Perform general clerical tasks, such as answering phones, updating patient information, and managing Electronic Health Records (EHR).
Prepare and complete accurate documentation related to patients in medical and departmental records.
Maintain a clean, neat, and safe working environment by adhering to policies, procedures, and regulations.
Protect patients and technicians by following infection-control protocols.
Maintain strict confidentiality of all patient protected health information (PHI).
Assist pharmacists in preparing, administering, and documenting medications and treatments in accordance with state and federal regulations.
Comply with state and federal drug laws and assist pharmacists in monitoring nursing unit inspections, maintaining records for controlled substances, and removing outdated drugs from inventory.
Retain certification and complete mandated continuing education requirements.
Develop hospital staff's pharmacological knowledge by participating in clinical programs and training pharmacy staff, students, and healthcare professionals.
Essential Skills
Pharmacy Technician License (CA Pharmacy Technician License - Cpht)
AHA BLS Certification
2 years of Pharmacy Technician experience (inpatient highly preferred)
Pharmacy technician certification
Pharmacy technician certificate
Experience in compounding/IV (highly preferred)
EPIC experience (preferred)
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Customer service skills
Experience in retail pharmacy and pharmacy support
Experience in filling prescriptions and prior authorization
Work EnvironmentThis position requires onsite work with obligations every other weekend and on holidays. The schedule includes two shift options: Day shift (5x8-Hour, 07:00 - 15:30) and Mid shift (5x8-Hour, 15:00 - 23:30).
