JOB TITLE: Nepenthe/Café Kevah Floor Supervisor- Part Time

DEPARTMENT: Nepenthe Restaurant and Cafe Kevah

EXEMPT: Non-exempt

REPORTS TO: Nepenthe/Café Kevah Restaurant Manager

DATE: January 2024

General Position Summary:

Responsible in overseeing and managing daily food and beverage service operations, capital assets, inventory, and profitability at Nepenthe Restaurant and the Cafe Kevah, including large groups, special events, and on-site catering functions on a flexible part-time basis of 2 to as many as 5 shifts per week.

Essential Functions/Major Responsibilities:

Include the following as well as the other duties and responsibilities which may be assigned.

Act as a leader, policy maker and implementer, and as a professional.

Manage guest relations by ensuring excellent guest service is provided to all guests.

Encourage guest retention by determining guest needs and offering or modifying services accordingly.

Encourage employee recruitment and retention by determining employee needs and overseeing and implementing benefits, work schedules, and levels of responsibility consistent with overall Company guidelines and goals.

Maximize the day to day and long-term profitability and productivity of the food and beverage service operations.

Supervise all employees in food and beverage operations in meeting service standards and all other areas of employee responsibility.

Communicate with all co-workers, guests, and vendors in a respectful, timely, and professional manner.

Oversee all day-to-day issues in food and beverage operations.

Manage food and beverage capital assets in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

Ability to successfully supervise and manage on part time basis and work in subordinate, non-supervisorial line capacity in other departments when not scheduled as a supervisor.

Support safety and emergency training for all food and beverage employees independently and in coordination with Human Resources Manager.

Qualification Requirements:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

Knowledge: Advanced knowledge and experience in server, busser, bartender and sommelier service skills, general food and beverage service and production, and on-site and off-site catering.

Skills: Strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills; demonstrated ability to communicate in situations requiring tact and poise; skilled in confidentiality and discretion. Two years or more of management experience with responsibility for thirty or more employees, two or more departments, and full-service food and beverage operations.

Abilities: To apply and adapt practices and techniques to special circumstances; to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, peers, management, superiors, board members, consultants, and other; to present facts and recommendations effectively in oral and written form; to ensure optimum performance of the function. Must know position and personal limitations and provide information only as able and directed. Must be able to adjust tasks and focus with poise, and in accordance with changing deadlines and priorities.

Education:

Advanced knowledge and experience in server, busser, bartender and sommelier service skills.

Language Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret employment regulations and journals. Ability to respond to, and effectively present information about basic inquiries from employees and management.

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English fluently and accurately.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, rations, and proportions to practical situations.

Reasoning Skills:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Supervisory Responsibility:

Full supervisory responsibility for each scheduled shift and between 10-40 employees per shift. Supervisory responsibility is primarily for front house staff but extends as well to back house and support staff as business circumstances and management levels dictate.

This supervisory responsibility includes appropriate shift level employee evaluation, employee recognition, employee counseling and/or discipline, approving absences and/or overtime, and implementing hiring, terminations, and training.

Whenever possible, consults with Human Resources Coordinator/Manager and/or General Manager prior to implementing major disciplinary action.

Other Skills and Abilities:

Must be highly computer literate and familiar with advanced word processing and spread sheet applications in a Windows environment, network systems and point of sale systems.

Must be organized, creative, independent, and self motivated, enthusiastic, dependable, detail oriented, flexible in scheduling and prioritization, and driven by excellence.

Must possess exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including accurate grammar and business correspondence knowledge.

Conducts self in a manner reflecting credit on the company and encourages others to do the same.
