Work Schedule: Part-time (25 hours per week) non-exempt; generally scheduled between 11:00am and 6:00pm, Monday – Friday with occasional weekend responsibilities for special events and field trips.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
The Bus Driver/Courier is responsible for daily implementation of Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County’s (BGCMC’s) transportation services for diverse youth ages 6-18. This individual is responsible for supervising youth during transportation and ensuring the safety of all individuals by exercising caution and safe driving techniques while adhering to laws outlined by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Additionally, the Bus Driver/Courier is responsible for providing courier support to BGCMC personnel. This includes but is not limited to mailing, delivering, and picking up packages, processing daily deposits, and running errands that serve to support business needs and functions.
Key objectives this position is responsible for achieving include:
Operate a bus or assigned vehicle to transport youth safely and efficiently to assigned locations over designated routes. Perform record keeping functions as required.
Pick up and drop off items such as, mail, parcels, bank deposits, material donations, club supplies and materials. Occasionally required to transport passengers in smaller vehicles.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Bus Driver
Know driver assignments.
Perform pre-trip vehicle inspections
Drive assigned bus over scheduled routes.
Pick up passengers on time.
Enforce rules of conduct for passengers.
Transport passengers safely, obeying traffic laws.
Off load passengers following established procedures.
Complete post trip log form at the end of the work shift.
Clean/wash assigned vehicle(s) as needed, at least every 2 weeks.
Keep assigned vehicles fueled to at least ½ tank levels.
Perform evacuation drills at least quarterly.
Report defects to your supervisor immediately.
Federal random drug testing program participation.
Consent for limited queries of the Federal Motor Carrier Safety (FMSCA) Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse.
Courier
Pick up mail upon request.
Pick up and transport food to designated locations.
Check in daily with the Finance Office regarding bank business. Deliver deposits and obtain receipts.
Pick up donated items upon request.
Deliver supplies and materials to specified locations upon request.
Transport passengers in smaller vehicles to specified locations.
Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Successfully complete pre-employment background check and drug testing.
Valid California Driver’s License with passenger transportation endorsement. Restriction 64- Class A/B.
Minimum of 3 years experience demonstrating safe and defensive driving practices.
Minimum of 3 years experience demonstrating proper operation of buses.
Knowledge of California Motor Vehicle Code, Education Code sections and laws applicable to student transportation.
SPAB certification
Physical every two years (Annually, if over 65 years of age).
Administrative/record keeping skills.
Oral and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Demonstrated safe driving record.
First Aid & CPR Certification.
ENVIRONMENTAL AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position requires the ability to perform work in a highly interactive and emotionally and physically stimulating environment. Occasional travel between Club sites is required.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to physically stand, bend, squat, and lift up to 25 to 30 pounds;

COMPENSATION:
Pay rate starts at $33.11 to $34.79 per hour based on qualifications and experience. Paid benefits package includes 11 paid holidays and 40 hours of California Healthy Workplace Healthy Family sick leave. Professional development opportunities are available contingent upon funding and approval. This position is classified as non-exempt and as such is eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
