Description An established Oakland-based law firm is seeking a Business Litigation Attorney with 1-7 years of experience to join their team on a contract-to-hire basis. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience handling breach of contract disputes and other complex business litigation matters. This role involves working closely with clients and the litigation team to provide strategic, results-driven legal solutions while handling cases through all phases of the litigation lifecycle.Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with partners and senior attorneys to develop case strategies tailored to achieve client objectives.
Manage a caseload of business litigation matters, including breach of contract disputes, partnership disputes, and business torts.
Conduct thorough case assessments, including risk and liability analysis.
Draft and file complaints, answers, counterclaims, and motions, ensuring compliance with California state and federal court procedures.
Prepare complex briefs and supporting memorandum for dispositive motions, such as motions for summary judgment or motions to dismiss.
Handle all aspects of discovery, including drafting and responding to discovery requests, managing document production, and conducting depositions.
Collaborate with the legal team to review and analyze discovery documents for key evidence and privilege.
Work with eDiscovery tools to organize and present electronic evidence effectively.
Assist in preparing for trial, including drafting trial briefs, managing trial exhibits, and participating in witness preparation.
Perform detailed legal research on issues including contract law, business torts, and statutory claims.
Stay updated on developments in California business law to provide informed advice and advocacy.
Requirements
Qualifications:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
Active member of the California State Bar in good standing.
1-7 years of litigation experience, specifically handling breach of contract cases and other business litigation matters.
Demonstrated ability to manage cases independently with minimal supervision.
Trial preparation and courtroom experience preferred.
Strong understanding of California Code of Civil Procedure and court rules.
Exceptional drafting skills, including pleadings, motions, and discovery documents.
Proficiency in legal research tools (Westlaw, LexisNexis) and litigation software.
Ability to manage competing deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong client management and negotiation skills.
