SummarySUMMARY : The Labor & Employment Counsel position reports to the General Counsel. The Labor & Employment Counsel is responsible for managing the review and approval of all legal matters that arise from the Alameda Health System Human Resources Department (“HR”). The Labor & Employment Counsel will provide advice and counsel to managers and HR on labor and employment issues including but not limited to investigations, reviewing terminations, recruitment, benefits, and wage and hour; assist with AHS’s union contracts interpretation and provide guidance to AHS HR and managers on same; research additional laws and regulations as applicable; provide litigation support for AHS; and other duties as assigned by the General Counsel.DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS : NOTE: Following are the duties performed by employees in this classification. However, employees may perform other related duties at an equivalent level. Not all duties listed are necessarily performed by each individual in the classification.

Provide advice and counsel to managers and Human Resources on labor and employment issues.

Assist with interpretation of collective bargaining agreements, and handle arbitrations as needed.

Handle discrimination, retaliation, and harassment as well as wrongful discharge complaints.

Provide support on legal issues around recruitment, benefits, and wage and hour.

Work on projects as assigned.

Provide litigation support for AHS.

This is not an all-inclusive list, and other duties as assigned by the General Counsel.
