Overview:
We are seeking compassionate Direct Support Staff for our Behavior Management Adult Day Program. This role involves implementing instructional and environmental modifications to improve behaviors through skill acquisition and reducing inappropriate behaviors. You will support individuals with diverse needs, including those requiring enhanced staffing ratios and dual diagnosis, in inclusive, community-based settings. Additionally, you will implement Behavior Intervention and Prevention Plans and provide transportation services throughout the service area.
Responsibilities:
Facilitate the integration of individuals into inclusive community-based activities.
Assist individuals in acquiring functional skills necessary for community integration, self-advocacy, vocational/employment opportunities, and self-care.
Provide assistance with ADL’s (assisted daily living) - activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, mobility, and feeding, to ensure their comfort and safety.
Ensure the safety and well-being of individuals during all activities.
Manage and de-escalate challenging behaviors, including self-injurious behavior, physical and verbal aggression, and other disruptive behaviors.
Maintain accurate and timely records of individual progress, incidents, and other relevant information.
Work collaboratively with other direct care staff and leadership.
Safely transport clients to and from activities and community outings.
Requirements:
At least 18 years of age.
High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Possession of a valid California Driver's License in good standing with access to a registered vehicle and proof of insurance.
Good physical health verified by a health screening, including a test for tuberculosis.
Ability to pass criminal background checks and driver history screenings.
Current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification.
Strong understanding of person-centered thinking and planning.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong belief in choice and empowerment for persons with developmental disabilities
Compassionate and supportive demeanor towards individuals with developmental disabilities.
Reliable, punctual, and attentive to the needs of clients.
Willingness to learn and grow in the field of direct care.
