Sound and Lights Technician

The Audio and Sound Effects Technician is responsible for ensuring the highest quality of audio and sound effects during live performances at the Pirates Dinner Adventure and Beach Boulevard Club. This role involves the operations of all audio equipment, including soundboards, wireless microphone systems, live sound effects boards, and the aerial winch during live performances or when necessary. The technician will handle the loading and handling of stage firearms and operate various special effects equipment to create an immersive experience for the audience. Ensuring the safety and smooth operation of the show, the technician will conduct pre- and post-show setups, coordinate with the cast and crew, and assist with maintenance tasks related to lighting, sound, and special effects.

Duties and responsibilities

Pre-set and operate sound boards, wireless microphone systems, and live sound effects boards.

Collaborate with the creative team to implement sound effects that enhance the pirate theme or BBC show.

Operate audio system during a live performance, ensuring optimal sound quality and making real-time adjustments to audio levels.

Provide technical support for audio issues during rehearsals and performances. Troubleshoot and resolve problems promptly to minimize disruption to the show.

Collaborate with the show manager, performers, and other technicians to synchronize audio cues and integrate sound effects with the performance elements.

Adhere to safety standards for audio equipment, handle stage arms safely, and ensure compliance with all health and safety protocols.

Safely load, handle, place, and clear stage arms (pistols and cannons).

Pre-set and operate lighting/special effects equipment including Company Breakers, lighting console, water cannons, aerial winch, hand winch, fader wing, SFX board, and related equipment.

Monitor and maintain equipment, report any damages or hazards, and adhere to personal health and sanitation standards.

Monitor the levels of hazer and fogger fluid, replacing and reporting to the Tech Manager or Tech Supervisor when needed.

Perform pre-show and post-show checklists, and conduct aerial calls when necessary.

Monitor the condition of equipment used by technicians and report any damaged equipment to supervisors or tech managers.

Report frontline electrical hazards to Tech Manager, Tech Supervisor, General Manager, Operations Manager, and maintenance.

Operate within current health and safety regulations to ensure a safe environment.

Report to your manager any hazardous conditions and/ or defective equipment.

Maintain personal health and sanitation standards.

Performing other work-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

● 1+ years’ experience as a technical employee and/or stagehand, working in a professional production or theater setting.

● Preferred:(Apple, MS Word, Excel,) Qlab software, Yamaha digital audio consoles, ETC Ion lighting consoles; Vectorworks, or AutoCad, and internet file sharing).

● Proficient in using audio equipment and software such as digital audio workstations (DAWs), mixing consoles, and sound editing tools. Familiarity with wireless microphone systems and signal processing is preferred.

Keen ear for audio quality and a strong sense of timing for sound effects. Ability to maintain high standards of audio fidelity.

Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Experience in diagnosing and resolving audio issues quickly.

Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team.

Strong communication skills to effectively convey technical information to non-technical staff.

● Certification or degree relevant to a theater production or live performance

Working conditions

Ability to lift and carry heavy equipment.

Ability to climb up and down ladders and stairs to access tech booths.

Comfortable working in an environment near water, including potential exposure to wet conditions.

Physical requirements

● Able to lift, reach, bend, climb, and stoop

● Ability to work in a standing position for long periods (up to 8 hours)

● Safely lift bags, cases, and stacks weighing up to 60+ pounds up to 30 times per shift

● Comfortable with heights
