RF Production Support Engineering Manager:

This job initially reports up through Maxar (Palo Alto), but will transition into a Sanmina (San Jose) role in late 2022.

This position will initially be as a Maxar Employee, located in Palo Alto. Employees and equipment will transition to Sanmina with the production. Managers will also transition to Sanmina along with their teams in their existing leadership positions. All Maxar Employees are welcome to apply, including those in roles planned to go to Sanmina.

The organization teams with Maxar Design Engineering to transition products from development to flight production. It also teams with Test, Product Assurance, and Assembly in maintaining production quality and schedule. This cross-functional team consists of several General Engineering Functions (listed below).

Pre Transition Functions (at Maxar); This Manager will oversee the following types of Engineers:

  • Manufacturing Engineers- Responsible for defining and maintaining the product build process
  • Test Engineers- Responsible for defining and maintaining the Electrical Test process.
  • Mechanical Engineers- Responsible for Manufacturing Tool Design
  • Industrial Engineers- Responsible for Monitoring and improving the production process and maintaining Department Metrics. Assists with earned-value assessment, Labor/Non-labor forecasting, and financial reviews.
  • Responsible Electrical Support Engineers- Responsible for electrical performance of hardware in production
  • Process Engineers- Responsible for specific processes required in the manufacturing of Space Hardware.


Post Transition Functions (at Sanmina); This Manager will oversee the following types of Engineers:
  • Manufacturing Engineers- Translate all Maxar supplied manufacturing requirements to Sanmina procedures and work instructions. Oversee manufacturing process, supporting Assembly and Test as required. Act as POC when interfacing with Maxar Engineering for regular updates, change requests, and problem resolution. Implement and maintain process performance metrics. Participate in customer reviews and failure investigations. Receive non- production work requests and convert them into instructions that can be followed by manufacturing employees.
  • Test Engineers- Responsible for converting Test requirements into work instructions/ test procedures, and test set-ups. TEs will also oversee the Test process, proposing process improvements, training, and frontline T/S support. Will also assist Responsible Electrical Support Engineers with investigations and hardware performance/quality reviews and dispositions.
  • Mechanical Engineers- Maxar scope to be provided to Sanmina (TBC).
  • Industrial Engineers- Responsible for Monitoring and proposing improvements to the production process and maintaining Department Metrics. Assists with earned-value assessment, Labor/Non-labor forecasting, and financial reviews.
  • Responsible Electrical Support Engineers- Responsible for implementing electrical test requirements and evaluate hardware electrical performance at Sanmina. Leads internal troubleshooting efforts, in conjunction with Maxar Engineering. Performs preliminary OSA, and reviews findings with Maxar. May be required to attend meetings/reviews with Maxar customers.
  • Process Engineers- Responsible for specific processes required in the manufacturing of Space Hardware; Example: SMT. Will also cross-train as required to support Manufacturing Engineering when needed.
  • Project Management Engineers- Maxar scope; service provided to Sanmina (TBC)


Responsibilties:
  • Lead a group of 15 to 20 Engineers that support the production of complex RF Active and Passive hardware
  • Responsible for department budgets (program & overhead)
  • Responsible for presentations to customers in order to get approval to start production, deliver hardware, and restart production in case of technical problems (Material/Failure Review Boards)
  • Interfaces with customers and performs completed hardware selloffs.


Minimum Requirements:
  • Must = or permanent resident
  • Bachelor's degree in one of the following required: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Aerospace Engineering
  • 5 years of relevant experience including RF Theory and RF Test/Measurement
  • At least 2 years of relevant management experience required


Preferred Qualifications:
  • MS degree in one of the following: Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Aerospace Engineering
  • 10 years of relevant experience in RF Test/Measurement and RF Theory
  • Familiarity with satellite design and testing obtained through educational training and/or on-the-job experience in a related field
  • Highly skilled with Microsoft Office
  • Strong collaboration, written and communication skills
  • 5 years of relevant management experience
