Maxar is looking for an Electrical Engineering Manager to lead and guide a team of talented and diverse engineers for Maxar Space Robotics in Pasadena, CA. The Electrical Engineering Manager will be responsible for supporting on a variety of terrestrial and space-based projects at the Pasadena office.

As the Electrical Engineering Manager, you will lead and guide a team of electrical design engineers responsible for the development of electrical and electromechanical systems including direct and indirect testing of prototype and production flight hardware. You will be working and collaborating on projects related to terrestrial applications, space and lunar exploration, and robotics. We are constantly breaking new ground and looking for engineer leaders who thrive in seeking technical solutions to problems and act as owners.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain a team of diverse skills and backgrounds electrical and electronic engineer and designers supporting a variety of space robotic missions and programs.
  • Actively participate in technical and major program gate reviews with customers, suppliers, and other internal and external stakeholders. Provide technical inputs and identify areas of opportunities and risks.
  • Provide technical leadership and development opportunities in the field of electronics system design and robotics, guide and mentor junior engineers in electrical design and leadership.
  • Support technical proposal writing and engineering labor, schedule and cost estimation.
  • Continuously improve tools and processes used for delivering the highest quality space robotics systems possible.
  • Participate and execute on multiple projects as needed to ensure program schedules and deliverables are met or exceeded. Resolve complex technical problems in the area of electrical and electronic design, eliminate barriers to execution.
  • Help lead product development activities for robotic systems and motion control electronics and sensors and advance hardware development from concept and prototype stage through test and qualification of flight models.
  • Provide leadership in the area of process improvement, evaluate and maintain best practices for engineering and design of electrical assemblies and systems.
  • Review and approve final engineering drawings, procedures and supplier/vendor statements of work for the electrical engineering section.


Minimum Requirements
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • A B.S. degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field. M.S. degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years in aerospace or related field working electronics or electrical systems or product development for high reliability or space-based systems.
  • 3-5 years of experience in managing and leading engineering teams or projects.
  • Strong communication and analytical and skills.
  • Familiarity with EEE parts selection, design and assembly of rigid and flex circuits, microcircuit packaging technologies, PEMS, Class V QML parts, typical avionic systems architectures for power conversion and distribution, motion control, SoCs, Microcontrollers, FPGAs motor drive systems and singe board computers.
  • Strong familiarity with IPC/NASA/ESA standards for space and military electronic assemblies.


Amazing to have
  • Experience using Altium Designer, Draftsman for schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Experience using Solidworks or similar mechanical CAD software.
  • Understanding of space environment as it relates to radiation tolerance/hardness, thermal stress and typical analyses techniques including simulation and modeling.
  • Solid understanding of PCB assembly processes and standards including rigid PCB assemblies, flex assemblies and rigid-flex design.

Our salary ranges are market-driven and set to allow for flexibility. Individual pay will be competitive based on a candidate's unique set of knowledge, skills, and geographic diversity, with earnings potential commensurate with experience. The range for this position is:
$134,000.00 - $223,000.00 annually.
