Rich Island Duck Club (http://richislandduckclub.org), a private waterfowl hunting club in Northern California's Suisun Marsh, seeks a seasonal or year-round, on-site Caretaker. This position is best suited for a couple or two people who work well together and have experience in meal planning, prep, and execution.
The 1,200 acre remote property is a 25-minute drive from the nearest city (Fairfield, California) and about 90 minutes from San Francisco or Sacramento. The property includes modern amenities such as Wi-Fi, central heating and A/C, reverse-osmosis water purification, and a well-equipped commercial kitchen. The island’s private file-mile levee provides fantastic striper and sturgeon fishing, excellent bird and wildlife watching, amazing sunrises and sunsets, and plenty of solitude.
Caretakers are provided with a furnished two-bedroom apartment (utilities included), a vehicle for town runs, and salaries. Caretaker responsibilities include:
meal planning, shopping, preparation, serving, and cleaning up during the hunting season (Tuesday dinner; Wednesday breakfast; Friday dinner; Saturday breakfast, lunch, dinner) for 10-30 people
cleaning and maintaining the common areas of the lodge (not private rooms or baths)
modest grounds maintenance including lawn care, facility upkeep, and monitoring and operation of several water control gates
The hunting season runs from mid-October - mid-February. Preference is for caretakers interested in year-round employment, but this can be structured as a seasonal position. Caretakers interested in year-round employment act as a security presence and maintain the facilities during the offseason months (March - September).
