Employment Paralegal (Part-time)

Looking for a part-time paralegal for a small, but quickly expanding, civil litigation firm located in Lafayette, CA. Primary areas of practice include commercial litigation, real estate, employment law, and personal injury. Paralegal experience required and experience in employment law is preferred. This position is a unique opportunity to gain valuable, first-hand legal experience while working directly under multiple attorneys. Looking for someone who is hard-working, organized, detail-oriented, and flexible. This position can work at our Lafayette office, be a hybrid arrangement for whereby some days can be remote and some days are from the office, or this position can be fully remote.

Requirements:

2+ years experience working as a paralegal required;

Bachelor's degree preferred, but not required;

Experience working in a law office handling civil litigation; and

Computer literacy and familiarity/fluency with Adobe, Excel, Microsoft Office, and Outlook.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Preparing claims for litigation from intake to resolution under attorney supervision, including preparing administrative submissions, drafting state and federal court pleadings, and preparing for trial and/or arbitration.

Conducting legal research and prepare memoranda.

Managing and executing document preservation and litigation hold notices.

Preparing, maintaining, and updating electronic case files to ensure efficiency, organization, proper case management, and understanding of case status by other employees and attorney.

Identifying and completing periodic tasks related to the management of each case, documenting notes in the case management system.

Managing, updating, and entering calendar deadlines, including court dates and statutes of limitation.

Preparing and responding to written discovery, cataloging evidence, and organizing evidence in anticipation of trial.

Scheduling depositions and summarizing deposition testimony.

Performing other duties as assigned.

Ideal candidate will possess the following: 

Ability to work both independently and in a team environment collaborating with attorneys, paralegals, and legal assistants on all phases of litigation.

Friendly attitude and good phone etiquette;

Well organized and reliable; 

Strong written and oral communication skills;

Familiarity with legal concepts, documents, and terminology;

Gumption.
