Outstanding Biotechnology company seeks Senior Accountant to collaborate with the accounting staff and stakeholders across the company on financial policies and processes. The successful candidate must be deadline-driven, comfortable challenging the status quo, driving change, managing through uncertainty, and supporting a fast-paced organization. Experience with clinical trials is required, as is expert Excel skills.
Essential Duties and responsibilities:
Manage Daily Accounting Operations: Executing activities related to the general ledger, accounts payable, and financial reporting.
Accounts Payable Support: Supporting check run activities.
Month-End Close Process: Conduct the month-end close process, including preparing and reviewing account reconciliations such as accrued liabilities, general journal entries, and variance analyses, ensuring compliance with US GAAP.
Financial Reporting: Supporting the monthly financial reporting process, including key meetings with management for reviewing and obtaining sign-off on financial results and variance analysis.
Complex Accounting Transactions: Accurately calculate and record complex life science accounting transactions including, but not limited to: preclinical, manufacturing and clinical accruals, and payroll and benefits.
Project Management Collaboration: Collaborate with project managers to request estimates for projects utilizing Excel.
State Reporting and Compliance: Prepare state annual reports, registrations, property tax renditions, and supporting schedules.
Business Partnerships: Establish and maintain strong partnerships with key stakeholders, including FP&A, Procurement, and business unit leaders.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Experience and education requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
CPA with Big 4 public accounting experience preferred.
Advanced Excel experience is required.
6+ years of combined accounting and industry experience in a mid-size biotechnology, pharmaceutical, or medical device company.
Demonstrated success in driving process improvements, including significantly accelerating quarter-end close and reporting processes.
Proactive, responsive, and timely problem solver with outstanding project management skills, acute attention to detail, and drives processes and deadlines.
Strong organizational, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Ability to bring people together to work collaboratively across functional teams.
Strong knowledge of US GAAP, life science accounting transactions, including collaborations and clinical accruals.
Possess broad knowledge of accounting concepts, superior analytical skills, and knowledge of the biotech industry to identify and raise issues and develop standards, policies, and SOPs for the Accounting organization in support of key business processes.
Possess strong SOX internal controls knowledge and ability to manage and drive a fully compliant quarter-end close process.
Knowledge of accounting and enterprise business systems.
