Boys Varsity Basketball Head Coach
Start Date: Fall 2025 preseason (conditioning may begin earlier)
Regular Winter Season Runs November through February.
Position Summary:
SDJA is seeking an experienced and dedicated Boys Varsity Basketball Head Coach to lead our high school basketball program. The ideal candidate will have a passion for developing student-athletes both on and off the court, with a strong emphasis on character, sportsmanship, and competitive excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and lead all varsity team practices, games, and tournaments
Develop and implement a basketball program that aligns with SDJA’s values and athletic vision
Teach fundamental skills, strategies, and teamwork
Communicate effectively with student-athletes, families, and school administration
Support player academic success and character development
Supervise assistant coaches and collaborate with JV/middle school coaches
Ensure compliance with CIF rules and SDJA athletic policies
Coordinate preseason, in-season, and off-season training (within CIF guidelines)
Foster a positive, inclusive, and competitive team culture
Qualifications:
2-5 years' experience coaching at the club, middle, high school or college level
Prior high school or collegiate coaching experience required (head coaching experience preferred)
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills
CPR/First Aid, NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching, and Concussion in Sports certifications (or willingness to complete before season)
Knowledge of CIF regulations and high school basketball best practices
Must pass background check and complete all school onboarding requirements
Walk-on Coach: $25/hour ($5,000 for season)
