An established artisan bakery in San Diego is seeking a Pastry Chef to lead production and menu development as we grow. This is a salaried position for a creative and organized chef who values craftsmanship, teamwork, and locally sourced ingredients.
Responsibilities:
-Oversee daily pastry production, from laminated doughs to seasonal/signature pastries
-Lead recipe development and testing for new pastries and upcoming hot food offerings
-Work from the commissary kitchen for bulk production, with hands-on involvement in final prep at the retail location
-Maintain consistency, organization, and attention to detail across all menu items
-Foster relationships with local farmers and producers to feature seasonal ingredients and sustainable sourcing
-Manage inventory, ingredient prep, and production schedules
-Ensure food safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency across both kitchens
-Communicate effectively with team members and leadership to coordinate production, menu launches, and daily needs
Qualifications:
-3+ years of professional pastry or culinary experience, including leadership or supervisory roles
-Strong knowledge of laminated doughs, classic pastry techniques, and general culinary principles
-Culinary or pastry degree preferred but not required
-Early morning availability and ability to manage production timelines
-Highly organized, detail-oriented, and a clear communicator
-Passionate about local food systems, sustainability, and creative collaboration
-Excited to help grow with a bakery looking to expand into multiple locations
