Willowbrook Golf Course is a 9-hole regulation golf course facility located in Lakeside. Willowbrook is located 25 miles east of San Diego in a serene valley at the foothills of the Cuyamaca Mountains. Played twice from two different sets of tees, this course offers challenge and excitement to players of all skill levels. The course encompasses approximately 42 acres and is highlighted by three lakes.
Job Summary:
Responsibilities include turf grass/plant material maintenance programs, property/asset management, personnel management, budget/financial management, member relations, scheduling/maintenance or irrigation systems, pesticide applications and related recording and compliance of regulatory issues.
The Golf Course Superintendent works to create an environment where staff is involved and enthusiastic, with open communication and respect for themselves, members, guests and management.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:
Responsible for all phases of Golf Maintenance and Agronomic Operations cost control and personnel.
Works closely with, advises and coordinates with the Golf Course Manager on any issues related to golf course
maintenance.
Administers and enforces all course rules, regulations, policies and procedures for staff.
Must be a self-starter, problem solver and have to ability to work independently.
Manages irrigation system, including pump house, all sprinkler heads and computer system (Toro), which will
include adjusting schedules to address any irrigation issues.
Supervises maintenance staff by assisting course management with performance evaluations and exercising
disciplinary actions according to the policies and procedures of Willowbrook Golf Course.
Provide technical, operational and safety training for the maintenance crew to ensure that staff is working within
club safety, OSHA, state and federal guidelines for safe working conditions. Perform monthly safety and training
classes.
Oversees the maintenance and proper use of all mechanical and power equipment. Develop requests for additional
or replacement equipment for all capital requests as required.
Supervises and participates in the application and recording of chemical applications (fertilizers and pesticides) on
the golf course grounds in compliance with all local, state and federal regulations. Will also be required to plan and
schedule all pesticides and fertilizer applications throughout the year, create a greens program, inventory and record
all applications with a log of weather conditions, course conditions and the outcome of the application for future
reference.
Order parts, supplies, and equipment as needed and also will be required to track all purchase orders.
Adjust schedules and maintenance practices around golf events and high volume days to ensure all maintenance to
the course will be completed on a daily basis.
Qualifications:
2 or 4 year degree in Turf Grass Management or related field required.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in golf course management experience at the level of Assistant Superintendent or
higher.
Must have a Qualified Applicators Certificate (QAC) or License (or the ability to obtain one within 90 days of hire).
Irrigation installation and repair knowledge required.
Poa annual/bent greens management experience.
Kikuyu/Bermuda/Rye tees, fairways and rough.
Hands on management style.
Bilingual (English – Spanish) communication ability preferred.
