Position Summary: Under the direction of the Music Director and Pastor, the organist at St. Anne Catholic Church is responsible for providing sacred organ music during Masses on Sundays, Holy days, weddings, and other special Masses.
Primary Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
- Playing the musical portions of the service and accompanying the choirs
- Selecting music for preludes and postludes, learning, practicing, or reviewing it, determining organ registrations, setting them up at the organ console, and practicing them for effectiveness
- Selecting, planning, and practicing hymn accompaniments and appropriate settings for sections of the service
- Playing the organ for Sunday Masses, Holydays, Confirmations, First Communions, and others as directed by the director and pastor. The Sunday Masses for which organ is expected are as follows:
- 7:30am - Low Mass
- 9:00am - Sung High Mass with Adult Choir
- 11:00am - Sung Low Mass with Youth Schola
- 12:30pm - Sung Low Mass with Youth Schola
- Playing the organ at weddings
- Maintaining manual and pedal dexterity by regular practice on the organ and other instruments
- Learning and adapting choir accompaniments for the organ when necessary
- Attending choral pre-Mass rehearsals, rehearsing with cantors when necessary, and preparing for all such rehearsals
- Selecting new organ compositions to meet the special and changing needs of the liturgies
- Ensuring the parish musical instruments (organ, piano, etc.) are maintained, repaired, and tuned as needed.

Qualifications:

Knowledge & Skills:
- Must be proficient at the organ
- Must have very good music sight reading skills
- Able to work flexible hours
- Friendly; has excellent people and communication skills
- Thorough knowledge and familiarity with the organizational and liturgical practice of the Roman Catholic Church
Education & Experience:
One year’s experience as a liturgical organist/accompanist
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be present in the parish. The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the choir loft/section, as well as maneuver throughout the parish facility to attend meetings, briefings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend meetings or events. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.
