We are seeking a versatile Automotive Service Writer / shop helper to join our dynamic team. This role requires a candidate who can excel both in customer service and technical automotive maintenance. As a Service Writer, you will interact directly with customers, assessing their vehicle service needs, providing recommendations, and ensuring a seamless service experience. As a helper in the shop, between the customers and phones you will perform routine maintenance services, such as oil changes, fluid checks, tire rotations, and very basic automotive jobs.
We are a small crew of 3-4 looking to replace one of our team members. We are open from 8-5pm, Monday - Friday. NO weekends. Paid holidays and vacation time.
Responsibilities & Duties
Interact with customers, listen to their questions and concerns, and provide timely responses.
Provide clear explanations of necessary repairs, maintenance, and associated costs.
Schedule appointments, take orders, monitor service progress, calculate charges, and process payments.
Maintain ongoing communication with customers, updating them on service progress and any changes to estimates or timelines.
Address customer inquiries, concerns, and complaints promptly and professionally.
Manage complaints, returns, and resolve customer grievances.
Perform oil changes and lubrication services on various makes and models of vehicles.
Check and top off fluids, including coolant, brake fluid, and windshield washer fluid.
Inspect vehicle systems for wear and damage, including brakes, belts, hoses, and filters.
Ensure all maintenance services are performed accurately and efficiently, following manufacturer specifications.
Document all services performed and recommended repairs thoroughly and accurately.
Assist with other automotive services and repairs as directed by senior technicians.
Maintain a clean and safe working environment, adhering to safety protocols and guidelines.
Skills & Qualifications
Proven experience in automotive service writing and/or lube technician roles preferred.
Strong customer service skills with the ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
Solid understanding of automotive systems, maintenance procedures, and technical terminology.
Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently.
Ability to work well independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
Proficiency with computer software systems for scheduling, invoicing, typing, and documentation.
Problem-solving and listening skills
Education and Experience Requirements:
2-plus years of experience in a service advisor role strongly preferred
Computer and point-of-sale proficiency
Previous customer service experience
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
