Job Description SummaryThe Manufacturing Engineer (ME) will be expected to simultaneously lead multiple high impact projects. The ME is expected to lead change, contribute new ideas, and find innovative methods to accomplish goals. Works on complex mechanical and electrical problems where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of various factors. Acts independently and exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies. May supervise the activities of others. Determines methods and procedures on new assignments. The ME will be expected to have the ability to get things done through people that do not report to them. Leads multi-functional project teams - Major objectives include improving manufacturing operational efficiency, optimizing product design, qualifying replacement components, reducing manufacturing costs and improving product quality and customer satisfaction.

Must be an adept and expert problem solver capable of resolving root cause of difficult technical issues. Must be able to promptly implement effective solutions for mechanical, optical, electrical, and fluidic issues seen in Manufacturing. Strives to continuously improve processes to achieve optimal efficiency for manufacturing operations.

Supports the introduction of new products into manufacturing from R&D. Reviews engineering designs and documentation for completeness, clarity, and manufacturability. Evaluates and qualifies new suppliers. Interfaces with Product Development to define and implement manufacturability criteria, develops procedures/processes for assembly, PCB's, systems, and sub-systems test procedures including fixtures during the development process. Ensures designs, documents, and procedures are validated in manufacturing prior to production release.

Assesses feasibility and soundness of proposed engineering evaluation tests, products, or equipment.

Able to independently perform assigned work to meet objectives and goals with minimal supervision; Receives technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.

Performs field failure investigations and properly document, identify root causes, and participate in corrective and preventive action efforts.

Stays ahead of the basic requirements for compliance in own area of work and aligns with those requirements. Participates as required in training on regulatory issues affecting own area of work. Brings regulatory compliance questions/issues to the attention of management.

Promotes a safe work environment. May provide recommendations on maintaining the safety of the work environment.

Performs other related duties and assignments as required.

Education and/or Experience

BS degree: ME, EE, IE, Physics or other Technical degree

Minimum one (1) year engineering experience

Must be proficient with MS office (Word, Excel, Power Point, MS Project, Visio).

Must have experience with CAD - SolidWorks.

Must be well versed in troubleshooting electro-mechanical assemblies and be familiar with PCBA’s.

Must be able to understand Engineering Drawings, generate Bills of Materials, develop Standard Operating Procedures, create, review, and release Engineering Change Orders.

Must be able to read electrical drawings (schematics).

Must have strong project management and Continuous Improvement (CI) skills.

Must have experience in developing Manufacturing processes, writing assembly, testing procedures, and training Manufacturing personnel.

Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, and good social skills.

Must be able to train production assembly associates and test technicians.

Must be good in resolving conflict, negotiation, and time management skills.

Must possess the capability to timely resolve high visibility problems with minimal direction and the ability to interact optimally with the Leadership Team.

Capable of recognizing and addressing problem without being instructed to do so.

Familiarity with ISO 9001 and 13485 standards.

Willingness to travel as required.

Desirable Qualifications:

Solid understanding of Manufacturing Execution System (MES).

Experience working with diode lasers and optical components.

Strong cGMP familiarity 21 CFR part 820, medical experience.

Experience in implementing LEAN Manufacturing processes.

Certified Six Sigma Green or Black belt.
