The Lay Patient Navigator functions as a bridge between community health service agencies and the Latino Population of the San Luis Obispo County. The Lay Person Navigator provides a safe culturally sensitive services beginning with community outreach and education and extending all the way through pre-screening screening and support services. The Lay Patient Navigator must exhibit sensitivity to the cultural and linguistic differences appropriate to the community served.Qualifications
Knowledge of the Hispanic social and econmic environment. Has experience in areas of working with and in supportive services of the Hispanic needs. (preferred)
Must speak English and Spanish Candidate must pass a language proficiency exam demonstrating an ability to speak wrie and read Spanish.
Driver's License and proof of liability insurance.
Knowledge of educational process including methods strategies and principles of adult education.
Sensitive and caring with effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Listening problem-solving and coordinating skills to organize implement and evaluate programs.
Strong writing and public speaking skills. Strong leadership skills and an ability to work harmoniously and effectively with others.
Basic computer skills. Flexible and able to handle several projects concurrently.
Skills in organization analysis and communication.
Ability to work tactfully and effectively with team members members of other departments patients community members community service organizations and medical staff.
