Full-time, hourly non-exempt. We are looking for a Benefits Authorization Specialist to join our agency to aid in maintaining and confirming CenCal benefits. The position is new to the agency and funding source (CalAim), so the incumbent will be assisting with developing the materials and implementing the protocols outlined by the contract. The Benefits Authorization specialist will be a key piece in our continued efforts to provide holistic human services to our clientele.
The position is in-person, housed in our South County Office. There is the potential for occasional local travel between our North and South County offices, to trainings and/or other requirements as needed.
The Benefits Authorization Specialist will be housed under Program Services at New Beginnings and will initially report to the Executive Director and/or Homeless Services Director while CalAIm is being implemented and eventually TBD based on program implementation.
Duties and Responsibilities Include, but not limited to:
1) Verifies insurance eligibility and authorization of current and potential clients in an accurate and timely manner.
2) Monitors monthly the eligibility standing of current agency, CenCal clients.
3) Communicates CenCal authorization and eligibility information to staff and management.
4) Reviews and ensures appropriate processing of authorizations.
5) Sends informational correspondence to CenCal.
6) Documents eligibility and any changes to client authorization and eligibility information.
7) Enters and tracks insurance authorization and eligibility information.
8) Performs other related duties and responsibilities as assigned.
9) Demonstrates self-direction to prioritize and accomplish job responsibilities.
10) Maintains knowledge of CenCal eligibility and remains current with any changes to CenCal eligibility and enrollment.
Qualifications and Requirements:
1) High School Diploma required. An associate degree or higher in a health-related field is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
2) Experience in medical billing or insurance authorization required.
3) Knowledge of medical terminology a plus.
4) Knowledge of CenCal preferred.
5) Basic computer skills.
6) Attention to detail.
7) Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
8) Ability to multitask and prioritize.
9) Strong organizational and time management skills
10) Adheres to laws regarding confidentiality; maintains knowledge of current HIPAA certification standards.
Additional Information:
Work hours are Monday – Friday, 9-5 although there may be some nighttime and weekend hours on occasion to attend community events or attend to administrative needs. The Salary range for this position is $25 - $30+ DOE dollars per hour with medical, vision and dental provided, 403b contribution and matching, as well as generous paid time off. The position begins asap.
