The team drives innovation at scale for millions of consumers around the world across Apple, Android, Smart TVs, game consoles, and the web, with our platforms powering core experiences like personalization, search, messaging and data.A few reasons why we think you’d love working for Disney Entertainment & ESPN TechnologyBuilding the future of Disney’s media business: DE&E Technologists are designing and building the infrastructure that will power Disney’s media, advertising, and distribution businesses for years to come.Reach & Scale: The products and platforms this group builds and operates delight millions of consumers every minute of every day – from Disney+ and Hulu, to ABC News and Entertainment, to ESPN and ESPN+, and much more.Innovation: We develop and execute groundbreaking products and techniques that shape industry norms and enhance how audiences experience sports, entertainment & news.We are making major enhancements to our multi-region image service serving Hulu streaming platform.This position might be right for you if:You want to help us improve and enhance an image delivery service that impacts every fan of our Hulu streaming platformYou’re a curious and efficient engineer who wants to feel empowered to help define the direction of development and work side-by-side with some of the brightest minds in our organizationYou enjoy working with other brilliant engineers in a challenging but supportive environment, learning from others and sharing your expertise with themJob Summary:Maintain, improve, and expand core, backend software components for the Image ServiceCollaborate with other Image Service engineers and external engineering teams to evaluate and design appropriate solutions to effectively meet Product requirementsBuild and manage code in AWS using TerraForm, K8s, Spinnaker, and other CI/CD toolsEvaluate new or existing technologies and products for implementation, considering costs, usability, compatibility and scalabilityCreate technical documentation and runbooks for reference and reporting purposesUse a mix of technologies including Java, Scala, Python, Kafka, and an array of AWS native servicesCollaborate with other team members (including product owners, TPMs, and other stakeholders) to achieve product and business requirementsConduct design and code reviewsAnalyze and improve efficiency, scalability, and stability of various system resourcesResponsibilities and Duties of the Role:Design and codingCollaboration, prioritizationMaintenanceRequired Education, Experience/Skills/Training:Basic Qualifications5+ years of experience building internet-scale API or services applicationsExperience in Java and alternative JVM application development environments (Scala)Familiarity with the AWS environment, including ECS (Docker), S3, EC2, Lambda, CloudWatchFamiliarity with infrastructure as code such as Terraform, CloudFormationUnderstanding of software development fundamentalsFamiliarity with writing unit, integration and functional testsFamiliarity integrating with service APIs and/or SDKsUnderstanding of agile processes software team with version control & project management tools (e.g. Github, SVN, Jira, Basecamp)Creative and inventive problem solvingStrong interpersonal and communication skills, and a team-focused approach towards software development.Preferred QualificationsExperience in ScalaExperience building scalable, fault-tolerant, high-uptime systemsRequired EducationBachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software, Electrical or Electronics Engineering, or comparable field of study, and/or equivalent work experienceThe hiring range for this position in LA/Santa Monica is $136,100- $182,400, and in Seattle/NYC is $142,600- $191,100, and in Bay Area is $149,000- $199,800. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
