Morgan Hill United Methodist Church is located in downtown Morgan Hill. The church was established in 1893 and the sanctuary was built in 1894. We are an inclusive, reconciling, and progressive community that welcomes all people regardless of race, ethnicity, religious background, tradition, gender identity or sexual orientation, based on the teaching of Jesus “to love one another” John 15:17.
Morgan Hill UMC desires to hire a person to work with the children and youth at Morgan Hill UMC. The United Methodist Church follows a Safe Sanctuary Policy. This requires two adults to be with children and youth at all times. Background checks and fingerprints (California law) are required of all the people working with children and youth.
The Children’s and Youth Director is responsible for providing leadership, guidance, and knowledge for the children and youth. The Children’s and Youth Director would involve congregation members in developing and executing the current programs and future programs. The ideal candidate is a team player, working collaboratively with other staff, and volunteers, and community partners to create a safe, positive, and supportive environment for children and youth.
Specific tasks include:
Develop, coordinate, and implement children and youth programs and initiatives
Establish and maintain positive relationships with children, youth, and their families.
Plan, coordinate, and evaluate activities and events
Monitor program budgets and track expenses
Design and implement evaluation strategies to assess program effectiveness
Follow all safe sanctuary procedures
Children’s Director:
Current Situation: There is a Sunday School program for children that meets during part of the worship service. A children’s time is held within the worship service, and then the children are dismissed to go to Sunday School. There are 3 attendees on a regular basis and a couple of other families that bring children occasionally.
The curriculum is purchased from Sparkhouse.
Expectations: The person we are looking for would work with other members of the church to select children’s curriculum, be in the classroom on Sunday morning, and plan an occasional program for children and their families outside the Sunday morning worship time.
Youth Director:
Current Situation: The Youth program has lapsed.
Expectations: The person we are looking for would reach out to youth in the families currently attending our church and reach out to other youth in our community to design a weekly time together for our youth. This time together could be via zoom some of the time and in person some of the time.
Qualifications:
Must be a professing Christian.
Some Knowledge of children and youth development principles and best practices
Good organizational and communication skills
Able to work independently and as part of a team
Available on Sunday mornings
Creativity in developing programs that meet the needs of children and youth
Hours and Compensation:
The Children and Youth Director is 12 hours per week; a minimum of 2 hours are required on Sunday mornings.
Compensation is negotiable depending on previous experience.
