Sherith Israel Preschool is an urban school in the Pacific Heights neighborhood of San Francisco. We provide a rich early childhood learning experience for children ages 2-6. We’re a year round school seeking a strong lead to help launch our first summer camp program. Our children and teachers take daily walks to our neighborhood park and monthly field trips. We have a beautiful, intentionally planned indoor space where children to explore indoor gardening and discover their interests through play and hands on experiences, which help them develop independence, become divergent thinkers and resilient problem solvers.

Position Overview

Sherith Israel Preschool is a new preschool for children ages 2-6, set to open on August 14, 2023. Offering a fresh and innovative approach to early childhood education. As a member of the teaching team, the lead teacher assumes a crucial role as a mentor to less experienced educators and provides support to the teaching team. The Lead teacher holds the responsibility of upholding the program's overall quality and values, while serving as a positive example for other teachers. This position begins no later than Aug. 1, 2023.

Hours

The position entails working Monday through Friday, with occasional evenings and weekends required for school-wide and synagogue family social events. It requires a commitment of 32- 40 hours per week, with at least 3 hours weekly allocated for planning and preparation time away from direct teaching duties.

Qualifications

Must demonstrate personal qualities of empathy, patience, ability to express and implement developmentally appropriates practices, clear written and verbal skills, cultural sensitivity, inclusive mindset, able to work collaboratively, leadership and organizational skills, passionate about outdoor education and family engagement.

Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain current CPR and First Aid certificates.

Must meet agency conditions for employment including requirements for child abuse and fingerprint clearances.

Required Educations and Credentials

Full and Part Time Requirements:

The ideal candidate possesses a current California Child Development Teacher Permit,

BA in ECE in progress or completed preferred.

OR an associate degree in early childhood education or core 12 ECE units and a related 2 year degree.

1 year experience in a licensed preschool center.

Preferred but not required, 6 months experience in an outdoor or nature based educational program and/or Jewish preschool environment.

Responsibilities

Implements a comprehensive, developmentally appropriate education program for children ages 2-6, using play based, nature based, emergent curriculum.

Adept at documenting children’s learning, assessment, and evaluation.

Develop and maintain positive relationship with parents, children, and staff.

Collaborate with others and submit lesson plans or thought web in writing biweekly.

Provide supervision of children at all times, comply with licensing ratios at all times without exception.

Participates in program meetings, training workshops and conferences.

Participates in the growth and development of the young child.

Maintains cleanliness and safety of classrooms.

Complies with program guidelines, policies, and procedures; Community Care Licensing policies; program performance standards and other regulatory requirements.

Completes all records, assessments, documentation and reports as assigned.

Reads, interprets, and implements written information such as safety rules, policy, and procedure manuals.

Possessing effective time management skills allows for the successful completion of bi-annual parent-teacher conferences.

Time off

We’re closed for Jewish holidays, winter, spring, and summer break.

We have a 6 week summer camp June-Aug.-working during the summer is optional as needed each year.

We offer 9 and 12 month employment contracts. Opening and closing shifts are available at this time. We are open M-TH 8:00 to 5:30pm and Fridays until 5:00pm.

Flexible scheduling to accommodate ongoing education and family obligations.

Salary and Benefits

$29-$32 per hour

Up to 24-days of paid time off annually (school closure days)

One additional week paid vacation (per year)
