We have expanded and need someone to come on mid year, and open up a new classroom.
Who we are:
Private Special Education School of 50 kids is looking for a dynamic, athletic, calm, behavioral savvy, academically strong teacher to come in and learn the ropes real quick, and then open your own classroom.
You also must be active, engaging, and a strong listener, and quick learner. You must have many, many years experience in a special education classroom. You must be confident, and skilled in PDA, Autism, ADHD, and not be afraid of a melt down.
Student Profile:
Students are high functioning, with learning disabilities, and some have behaviors which can look like school work refusal, verbal attitude, hitting, etc It is NOT your job to whip them into shape, rather to develop a strong relationship, see the why's behind behavior, and make a strong connection. Alpha personalities who want to discipline are not welcome to apply.
YOU WILL BE TRAINED, BUT SO MUCH OF THIS IS INTUITIVE AND HAVING THE ABILITY TO READ WHAT EACH CHILD NEEDS IN THE MOMENT.
Skills you must have:
Worked in a special ed classroom, general ed classroom, preschool, ABA, 1:1 aide, etc
Work really well, with co workers
Can comfort and give big boosts of self esteem.
Are creative and enthusiastic about finding a way for every student to learn.
Can lift 40lbs, go on long walks, and keep up with active kids.
Enjoy outdoor activities, PE, and being outside
Know K-5th grade academics
Not afraid or offended by a melt down, mean words, crumbled up paper, or knocked over toys
Hours/Pay
$40 an hour to start, will move to salary, after 90 days and commitment to following school year.
