POSITION SUMMARY

We recognize that classroom teachers have the most impact on student achievement. We believe that recruitment, development, and retention of great educators is the key to the success of our students. We provide our teachers with professional development, training, onsite mentorship and support as they develop their teaching skills and strengthen their commitment to education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Student Achievement & Character Development:

- Set and hold students to extremely high academic and behavioral standards.

- Demonstrate and embody the schools core values.

- Ensure that students are challenged in a supportive classroom environment.

- Instruct students with diverse cultural backgrounds and learning needs.

Core Instructional Excellence:

- Assess every student's mastery of the content and identify areas of student misunderstanding.

- Demonstrate strong content knowledge.

- Prepare questions, anticipate challenges and practice effective instructional delivery.

- Lead students through guided and independent practice and regularly check for understanding.

- Work closely with tutoring/para staff to support the students with the highest need.

Classroom Culture:

- Implement effective classroom management.

- Create a positive, engaging learning environment where students are excited about and invested in their academics.

- Set and reinforce clear expectations and routines that are aligned with the school's overall vision

- Discuss, teach, and reinforce character skills.

- Teach students strategies to attend to their mental well-being with weekly social-emotional lessons.

Planning and Data Analysis

- Set measurable, ambitious, and attainable personal goals for the school year.

- Use data from summative assessments, quizzes and formative assessments to inform and guide instruction.

- Understand and know the California Common Core State Standards and plan how those standards will be assessed.

- Plan objective based lessons, develop and implement specific strategies to help students reach the established lesson goals.

Student Supervision, Safety and Well-being

- Be responsible for creating and maintaining a safe and productive learning environment for all students.

- At all times, act in a manner in alignment with DCA Core Values to promote respect and professionalism among students and colleagues.

- Be proactive in addressing issues to student safety and well-being (e.g., bullying, etc.).

QUALIFICATIONS

Required knowledge and skills:

- Strong classroom management and presence

- Demonstrated mastery of subject matter

- Commitment to the continual learning and development of DCA students and teachers

- Team player attitude and a strong work ethic

- Excellent organizational and planning skills

Educational Background and Work Experience:

- Two years of teaching experience with a record of high student achievement (preferred but not absolutely necessary)

- Bachelor’s degree from a competitive college or university

- Experience working with youth

- Teaching Credential (copy must show subject description, expiration date, and EL authorization), or…

- Willingness to apply for certification within 45 days if not already certified or credentialed
