CES has been in existence for more than 25 years and is known throughout the construction industry as experts in residential and commercial designs, building consultancy and architectural/structural engineering. With more than 120 employees in 4 locations, CES is a technical leader throughout the construction industry.
We are seeking an energetic and self-motivated Estimator with disciplines in Architectural, Civil, Structural Engineering, or Construction Management for our Walnut Creek, California office.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Analysis, Plan Review & Take-Offs: Review project drawings and specifications to understand project scope, materials, and construction methods.
Cost Estimation: Prepare comprehensive and accurate estimates for construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs. Projects may include new construction, remedial repairs, and eminent domain cases.
Scheduling: Review and produce construction schedules using MS Project or similar software. Identify delays, dependencies, and other impacts to critical path.
Change Order Analysis: Retrospective review of change orders, contracts, and proposals related to the determination of project scope and responsibilities. Create various documents to track, log, and analyze various project costs.
Risk Assessment: Identify potential risks and uncertainties in project scopes and estimates, accounting for contingencies where necessary.
Documentation and Reporting: Maintain detailed and organized records of estimates, bid proposals, and project costs.
Site Visits: Visit construction sites to assess status of completion, site constraints, and other factors which may impact budgets and schedules.
Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and subcontractors to ensure alignment on scope, budgets, and project details.
Market Research: Monitor trends in construction costs, materials, and labor rates to maintain up-to-date, competitive pricing.
Qualifications:
Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and labor costs
Knowledge of local building codes and regulations
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications
Knowledge of CSI divisions and budget formatting
Excellent math and analytical skills, with high attention to detail
Proficiency with estimation software and publications (e.g. Bluebeam, RS Means, Saylor, or similar tools). Familiarity with Revit is a plus, but not required
Proficiency with MS Office including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Ability to process, organize, and quickly recall vast amounts of data.
Strong communication skills – written and oral
Bachelor’s degree in Architectural, Civil, Structural Engineering, or Construction Management.
0-5 years of experience as a construction estimator, preferably in residential, multifamily, or commercial construction
Driver's license and automobile insurance must be in good and current standing
Ability to climb ladders, work at heights, and travel by car / air to job sites
