ASSISTANT MANAGER

Madrona Bakery is seeking a talented Assistant Manager for our cafe operations.

We are looking for highly motivated people who enjoy working with others. This is a front of house customer facing position, so candidates must be:

- Fluent in both written and spoken English

- Have a strong knowledge of coffee, breads, and baked goods

- Experience in the hospitality industry (cafe, restaurant, bakery)

- A positive attitude and a willingness to take on any tasks required to provide customers with the best service possible and present the store in the best way possible

-Hold Servsafe Manager certification

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The role of Assistant Manager is to assist the Owners with overseeing opening and closing duties, scheduling, staff training and development.

This position supports and supervises a team of other staff members to create and maintain the cafe brand and experience for our customers. While the role is mainly FOH, the Assistant Manager is expected to ensure the cafe is running smoothly and hopping in anywhere needed.

This is the perfect position for an organized, driven professional who can demonstrate leadership potential and can guide their team to provide exceptional customer service experiences.

Candidates must demonstrate strong organizational and time management skills, the ability to delegate, a positive proactive attitude, and a passion for customer service.

Assistant Managers are also responsible for:

- Ensuring that each customer receives outstanding customer service by providing a friendly environment; this includes greeting and acknowledging every customer, keeping the dining room tidy and welcoming, and maintaining a thorough knowledge of all our bakery and beverage products

- Work with baristas to ensure that the coffee offerings are of the highest quality

- Build the daily pastry display; making sure products look their best

- Keep FOH clean, organized, well stocked, and tidy

- Support owners in scheduling, training and development for all cafe personnel. Will co-manage (with Owners) 2-3 direct reports

- Help covering any additional shifts in an emergency

- Maintain proper sanitation and food handling procedures

- Ensure compliance with all policies and procedures

- Oversee opening and closing to ensure the security and safety of the business and its staff

- Manage product and packaging inventory through successful operation of the POS (Square) and inventory management systems

- Develop deep knowledge of all our products, work with culinary team to develop and improve new and existing products offerings

- Conducting new hiring orientation and implementation of the training program as well as re-training of current staff

- Step in as Manager when no other management is available

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

- 3+ years previous hospitality experience in a fast paced cafe, restaurant or bakery environment

- Confident using POS systems (experience using Square POS is a plus)

- Spanish language skills a plus

- Excellent customer service skills and the ability to diffuse difficult situations

- Strong understanding of cafe and food & beverage operations

- Demonstrated ability to manage employees with varying shifts and responsibilities

- Excellent in-person and digital communication skills

- Strong organizational skills

- Time management, multi-tasking, and follow-through skills

- A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail

- Good basic math skills (add and subtract accurately without paper or calculator); experience using excel

- Must consistently have regular, dependable attendance; and be able to satisfactorily pass a background check.

SCHEDULE

We are looking for someone three to four days a week to start - you must be able to work both Saturday and Sunday.

Shifts are typically:

7:30 - 3:30

PAY

$24-26/hour plus tips (averages to an additional $10 hour)
