Job Description – Cook / Baker

Reports to: Sous Chef

The Francisca Club is a private club located in downtown San Francisco.

POSITION OVERVIEW

Well-established Union Square private club is seeking Garde Manger with great knife skills for hot and cold preparations, and simple baking. The Line Cook is responsible for the preparation and presentation of food items as described on the menu, banquet menu or by instructions received. This will be done in the most professional manner, taking in consideration high quality and cost.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

As the Line Cook, the following outlined areas are paramount to being successful in the role:

Observe and absorb fundamentals of food preparation and presentation.

Must have good knife skills for preparing hot food, salads.

Simple baking providing support to Sous Chef in baking pastries.

Perform banquet preparation to correct quantities and assist with set up for buffets, programs, private parties, and receptions.

Perform any other reasonable request as assigned by Chef or Sous Chef.

Highly energetic; a self-starter with a “hands-on” approach to management.

A strong sense of service with proven staff development and training skills.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Stand for 8 hours a day (with 30 min break)

Food safety certification

Stay on the line for up to 4 hours during dinner service

Push, pull or lift up to 30lbs while receiving and stocking orders

Withstand high temperatures up to 28C on the hot line

Move quickly in order to keep up with business demands during the rush and prep time

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Three years of experience in the food services industry.

Strong working knowledge of food services industry principles, methods, practices, and

techniques.

Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.

Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and holidays, as well as regular overtime.

LICENSES AND SPECIAL PERMITS

Food safety certification.

REPORTS TO: Sous Chef

SUPERVISES: No supervisory duties
