The Position
As a Code Enforcement Supervisor you will be responsible for code violation case management, reviewing code enforcement cases, and providing direction and resources to staff regarding compliance measures. In this position you will assist in field inspections, warrants, and abatement actions and share your expertise with staff as training opportunities. You will be responsible for training new and existing team members, conducting employee performance evaluations, and supervising the daily workload of the Senior Code Enforcement Inspectors, Code Enforcement Inspectors, and Office Assistants.
As an ideal candidate, you will have experience documenting violations and site conditions accurately and effectively. You will need to make fact based decisions on information gathered and thrive in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will also possess many of the following:
Extensive experience with code investigations and documentation inspection results
The ability to accurately review, interpret, and implement County codes
The proven ability to analyze facts and problems to identify solutions and improve processes
Patience in dispute resolution between parties with a humble, non-bias approach
Ethical standards and the ability to provide credibility to testify in court settings
Experience educating and explaining County codes and processes to the public to achieve compliance
Attention to detail and thoroughness in preparing staff reports for hearings
Excellent communication skills, with an emphasis on active listening, being collaborative, motivational with diverse groups of people
The ability build trust, maintain effective working relationships
Please note: Possession of PC 832 Powers of Arrest (POST Certified) is required within one year of appointment. Completion of a PC832 Laws on Arrest class is required.
In accordance with California Health and Safety Code, Section 18949.25-18949.31, possession of a Code Enforcement Certification from an approved and accredited organization upon appointment, or obtained within one year of appointment.
Working conditions: A shirt with the County of Sonoma seal and the department name will be provided. This position works indoors and outdoors in variable weather conditions.
