About the Position
The Senior Engineer will supervise, train, coach, schedule, and assign projects to the Engineering Division staff. In this role you will have significant autonomy and authority, while interacting closely with multiple departments within the County, external stakeholders, and the public. Additional responsibilities include:
Reporting workload productivity of the Engineering Division staff to the Permit Sonoma Management team
Reviewing plans and calculations for compliance with county codes and policies
Elevating complicated and contentious issues to the Engineering Division Manager
Reading and responding to inquiries, explaining department policies and procedures, and providing guidance to direct reports
As the ideal candidate you will have multiple years of professional civil engineering-related experience. The ability to interpret technical and complex information regarding codes, regulations, standards, engineering principals, and calculation methods. In addition, you will possess many of the following:
Experience and knowledge in engineering and construction principles related to sanitary sewer systems, portable water systems, drainage systems, hydrology and hydraulic analysis, earthwork, roads, and driveways
The ability to perform complex calculations to verify applicants accuracy
Strong work ethics, sound judgement, patience, with a common-sense approach for negotiation and problem-solving
The ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both written and verbal, including the ability to give public presentations
Possess intermediate Microsoft Office skills
Training or certifications in hydrology and hydraulic calculations, sewer systems, water systems, and road designs
Knowledge of CEQA is highly desirable
Experience reading and interpreting construction plans and specifications is highly desirable
Experience in civil engineering design and Construction inspection is highly desirable
Work Environment
Senior Engineer's occasionally work in the evening, on weekends and rarely on holidays. Fieldwork site evaluations and constructions inspections will occasionally be performed outdoors, year-round. Summertime is peak construction season with more field work performed in various weather conditions.
