Life Enrichment Aide at Alzheimers Services of the East Bay

Major Function:

To assist participants in the program, lead therapeutic activities, assist with personal care, safety risk and delegate tasks to volunteers.

Reports to:

Life Enrichment Director, with nursing supervision for spa and mealtime assistance duties.

Essential Functions:

Set up the room for daily programming. Maintain neatness and order in rooms. Monitor supply inventory.

Assist participants with personal care, including toileting, changing, and transferring.

Distribute lunches; assist participants with eating.

Assist with and lead activity programs, including group activities, 1:1 activities and socialization, field trips, special events, shows, etc.

Communicate in an appropriate and professional manner with participants, caregivers, volunteers, other staff and the multi-disciplinary team.

Value and provide person-centered care.

Monitor and report behavior of participants (disposition, falls, wandering) to Life Enrichment Director, RN, and Social Worker. Inform the RN of clinical changes immediately.

Read and record information in the communication binder daily.

In addition to the duties listed above, the Program Specialist will be expected to work in other departments as needed. These duties may include front desk coverage, PT, or OT Aide duties, dietary duties, and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Able to carry out daily responsibilities independently and accurately.

Current CPR and First Aid cards prior to hire. ASEB can assist getting CPR and first aid within six months of hire.

Clear TB test and health exam prior to or within seven days of hire.

English fluency required. Bi-lingual candidates are welcomed to apply.

Full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination. Requires standing, walking, pushing, bending, kneeling and reaching at arms length for prolonged periods of time. Must be able to transfer participants needing assistance. Requires the ability to lift/carry up to 50 pounds and push or pull objects exceeding 150 pounds, using appropriate body mechanics.

Education and Experience:

High School graduate or GED proficiency.

CNA background is preferred.

One year of experience working with individuals with disabilities. Experience with individuals with dementia or other cognitive impairment is preferred.
