ASSOCIATE ATTORNEY POSITION-CRIMINAL & PERSONAL INJURY
Steve Defilippis of the law firm of Picone & Defilippis, A P.L.C. is seeking an associate attorney with 0-3 years of past work experience as either an associate attorney or law clerk, including those awaiting bar results. This is an opportunity to hone your courtroom skills, as you would be handling numerous court appearances and working closely with a partner in defending murder and other serious life term exposure cases, as well as catastrophic injury cases. The ideal candidate is a self-starter and motivated individual with a proven track record of managing multiple and simultaneous deadlines.
The candidate must be a team player who is open to helping, strategizing, and working with clients, other attorneys and staff, as well as opposing counsel. Should have interpersonal skills of the highest caliber.
Job Description Summary
This boutique law firm specializes in the defense of serious criminal cases, as well as prosecuting Plaintiff personal injury cases. Our work is at the trial court level. Committed to excellent customer service, this firm provides focused personalized attention to every client's needs. The firm consists of highly experienced and aggressive attorneys and associate attorneys who strive to make a difference in the fields of criminal defense and personal injury. You would be working closely with Steve Defilippis, a 40 year founding partner of the firm. The work would primarily involve taking homicides and serious felonies through the trial phase of the case. For example, Mr. Defilippis has tried a half dozen homicides in the last year, and you would be working with him to get those types of cases resolved. However, there are also numerous lower level felonies and misdemeanors that you would be able to work one on one with the clients. On the personal injury side, most cases involve serious injuries, including catastrophic injuries and wrongful death. Qualifications
California-licensed lawyer with zero to three years of legal experience;
Trial and federal practice experience is welcome, but not required.
Responsibilities
Advise clients on their legal rights in matters and draft legal documents about their case;
Attend pretrial hearings on behalf of clients and advise clients following each hearing about best strategies;
Prepare cases for trial, and conduct trials as experience allows;
Manage court appearances and trials, draft motions, interview witnesses, and perform legal research;
Analyze probable outcomes of cases using knowledge of legal precedents;
Manage workload of cases; develop discovery plans and strategies;
Provide legal analysis for clients to determine any possible case benefits;
Gather additional evidence to support clients claims or for defenses against the charges of the prosecution;
Prepare clients for depositions, trials or other hearings, determine essential goals of case strategy and gather information from witnesses and important experts that support clients’ positions.
