Position Summary
UVFM is seeking a bi-lingualEBTProgram Clerk fluent in Chinese and English to serve our diverse customer base. This part-time position is fast-paced, methodical, and somewhat repetitive, but deeply meaningful. It’s ideal for individuals who are patient and truly enjoy engaging with a diverse public—especially elders—and value contributing to community-focused programs.

Key Responsibilities:
- Support the distribution and/or redemption ofEBT/SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and other market-relatedfoodassistance programs.
- Interact with customers in a friendly, professional manner, providing information about SNAP and answering questions about eligibility and using benefits at the market.
- Set up and take down the booth and equipment at market locations.
- Process electronic benefit transfers (EBT) and manage tokens distributed to customers.
- Maintain accurate records of transactions and provide daily reports to the market manager.
- Language translation of conversations and written materials.
- Assist in outreach efforts to increaseEBTprogram awareness in local communities.
- Collaborate with market staff to ensure smooth operations and a welcoming environment for all patrons.
Required Qualifications:
- Proficiency in Chinese and English (verbal and written).
- Punctuality and reliability are essential.
- Engaging interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work at a fast pace, independently and as part of a team.
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions.Comfortable sitting (or standing if you prefer) for long stretches of time.
- Comfortable with repetitive tasks (swiping cards) as well ability to be flexible as needed.
- Comfortable with PC computersReliable transportation to market locations.
- At least 21 years of age
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in customer service, community outreach, orfoodassistance programs.
- Experience assisting divers people of all ages and cultural backgrounds.
- Familiarity with farmers' market operations orfoodsystems.
- Ability to stay calm, manage details, and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- A very patient and sunny personality, and a goodsenseof humor.
- Comfortable flexing authority and order when needed.
- A self-starter with an positive disposition, with the ability to work collaboratively as a team player while taking direction well.
Compensation & ScheduleStarting Pay:
$22 per hour (Potential pay increaseafter 3 month review.)
Hours: 18–20 hours per week with overtime pay when applicable
Shifts:
Fridays: 7:00 AM – 3:00 PM - Oakland Farmers' Market
Saturdays: 5:30 AM – 3:30 PM - San Francisco Farmers' Market
