Job Title: Family Engagement Coach (Bilingual English Cantonese) (Temporary)

Department: Child Care Family Services

Reports to: Family & Caregiver Engagement Senior Manager

Pay: $40 - $45/hour

Assignment: 3 Months with Possibility of Extension

ABOUT THE CHILD CARE FAMILY SERVICES TEAM

Our Child Care Family Services Department is invested in offering a wraparound service model that builds on individual and family strengths to help families achieve positive goals and improve well-being. We offer an array of supportive services to families, which includes child care financial assistance for children 0-13, help in finding high quality child care educator in San Francisco, various levels of case management, family engagement activities and caregiver workshops.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Family Engagement Coach will build, evaluate, and modify family engagement workshops, based on community needs, that focus on child development, family support, and family strengthening principles to build child and caregiver’s learning and reduce caregiver isolation. The Family Engagement Coach will support families enrolled in a state child care voucher (CFCC/FCCHEN) by providing families ongoing wrap around support, conduct child development assessments, and cultivate a learning environment by promoting their participation in family engagement workshops. S/he/they will work directly with Family Child Care to evaluate their environment and set goals that continues to build their capacity and skillset as quality early educators.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

Child Assessments

- Schedule and conduct observations utilizing the DRDP tools (with parent/educator input) and enter data into database systems.

- Maintain child files with write-ups on Child Anecdotal Notes and the Child Progress Report with supporting evidence.

- Research supports for child’s suggested goals for home and child care; build a plan with parents and educators to establish activities each party will commit to that will move child’s progress toward desired outcomes of school readiness and well-being.

- Schedule and conduct parent conferences where you evaluate and track progress and goals.

- Perform other relevant responsibilities as required, such as implementation of ASQs.

Environmental Assessments

- Coordinate and deliver Family Child Care environmental assessment, i.e. FCCERS, and enter data into appropriate database systems.

- Maintain educator files with assessment documents and coaching goals/progress

- Build an educator development plan to reach goals and evaluate progress

- Regularly coach educators to support their learning and progress towards set goals

- Collaborate with Child Care Family Services on the different program needs to support educators and quality improvement.

- Maintain case files and assist with preparing reports related to quality assurance, audits, or other needs as necessary.

Family Engagement

- Build family relationships through Parent Advisory Committees, focus groups and educational activities and events.

- Utilize data available from child plans, educator goals, and community needs to make informed decisions on developing family engagement workshops.

- Facilitate family engagement workshops based on the needs of the community.

- Provide technology technical assistance for the community, specifically when utilizing online child assessments, online event registrations, and online surveys.

- Identify learning opportunities for our community needs and support the coordination and delivery of educational experiences.

- Collect and enter data to fulfill grant and funder reporting requirements.

- Develop a standard plan to provide ongoing child development wrap around support to families.

- Collaborate within the department to build pathways for families to participate in family engagement workshops.

- Design and use responsive curriculum, resources and family support services that align with the department’s family development framework.

- Attend conferences, interagency meeting, and community events as needed.

- Cultivate and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders—ECE programs, community-based organizations, funders and content experts—in a manner that engenders rapport and credibility.

- Through strategic collaboration, develop new partnerships to build a more effective program.

- Will perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Must have Bilingual verbal and writing proficiency in English/Cantonese

5 + years’ experience in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Social Sciences, or related field

Knowledge of early childhood development, parenting, family support

Experience developing and delivering learning events for adult learners

Professional or lived experience engaging people of diverse backgrounds

Ability to work independently as well as work as part of a team.

Fluency working with Microsoft Office Suite, social media platforms, event management and mobile technology

Must have reliable access to a car to travel within SF community to meet clients

Ability to work evenings and some weekends

Must be fluent in written and spoken English and Cantonese

Physical Requirements

Mental acuity to perform the essential functions of this position in an accurate and timely fashion.

Dexterity to use office equipment; the ability to sit and work at a desk for extended periods of time.

Ability to speak, hear, and understand speech at normal room levels.

Physical agility to bend, stoop, walk, and navigate stairs if required.

COVID Policy

All staff are required to be fully vaccinated (barring application for medical or religious exemptions). Wearing masks in the office is optional for our staff. 

Hybrid Work

We have adopted a hybrid working model and currently require employees to be present in the office at least 3 days per week, with the option to work 2 days per week remotely. All applicants should be comfortable with both the remote and in office scenarios.
