Do you like helping people, especially short people? Are you interested in fashion? Are you organized and meticulous? If so, we may have the job for you.
Hi! I'm Isabella. Years ago, I founded Short Story, because as a short woman it can be very difficult to find clothes that fit. Since then, I haven't gotten any bigger, but the firm sure has. We've grown rapidly, and we're still growing rapidly, and I think someone taking stuff off my plate will help us to continue growing rapidly. I can't really duplicate myself: but I can get more hours to do things if I have fewer other things to do. I would like you to do those other things.
Most of your time would be spent assisting me at our offices in SOMA, remotely handling stuff from a location of your choice (you can do some work from home), or very occasionally at my home at Hayes Valley. You'd spend a bit of time also assisting our CTO, Sam, and a small amount (10%) doing some remote work for one of our advisors, Jay.
You'll have access to the sort of opportunities you can only get at a fast-growing firm: if you want to pursue a creative role on the fashion team, or learn to manage operations and logistics, you'll have the chance to try. Or you could just keep helping me. I'd like that; I need the help. The important point is that whatever you want to do with your career, you'll have the freedom and opportunity to do it here.
So what would you actually do?
Manage various inboxes and calendars. You'll filter stuff that needs my attention from stuff that you can handle, or that we can ignore
Scheduling and booking. You'll manage a number of calendars, book appointments and meetings, arrange travel and make sure I always have time for lunch. Sometimes this will involve larger-scale events, such as picnics for our employees.
Errands. You'll either handle errands or delegate to other staff to ensure that, for example, someone has ordered the lunch you have ensured that I have time for.
A bunch of other stuff: Generally, if there's something that needs to be done but that I don't have to do, it makes a lot of sense for you to handle it.
A good candidate should be:
Organized. You're meticulous, detail-oriented and on time.
Driven. You don't give up, you find a solution.
Thoughtful. You come up with a good solution, not a solution.
An effective writer. You're clear and concise. You can spot a typo from 50 feet away.
In the Bay Area. Having a car is a plus.
