Position Summary

The Facilities Maintenance Engineer performs a variety of facilities support activities individually and collaboratively at our Sausalito dinnerware factory, retail showroom, and administrative office spaces. The maintenance engineer assembles, troubleshoots, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance for ceramics manufacturing equipment, maintains and repairs on our building and grounds, maintains and improves worker environments, and conducts general cleanup and organization. This position reports to the Facilities Manager.

Position Responsibilities

Facilities Maintenance

Maintain building and grounds to meet high standards of safety, appearance, and function

Execute projects related to improving environments for production workers and retail staff; this may include painting, concrete repair, replacement of filters, equipment cleaning, emptying dust collectors

Dispose of hazardous materials per safety protocols

Help maintain a database of facility assets, parts and materials stock, and preventative maintenance schedules

Machinery Maintenance

Perform regularly scheduled and preventative maintenance in collaboration with our Maintenance Mechanic and custodial staff

Provide equipment and process improvement ideas and solutions

Follow safety guidelines and notify management of safety concerns

Events

Work with retail and design staff on event setup, which may include the fabrication of support materials

Monitor and assist staff during events

Qualifications

Mechanical Engineering degree

3+ years of experience working in a similar manufacturing environment supporting factory equipment

Ability to perform hands-on repairs like painting, concrete repair, replacement of filters, equipment cleaning, emptying dust collectors

Proficiency in machine mechanics, electrical motor controls, pneumatic controls, hydraulic controls, gas-fired equipment systems, and basic plumbing

Fabrication experience using Lathes, Bridgeport mill, MIG, and TIG welding

Excellent understanding of safety principles and strong safety track record

Ability to work independently and proactively identify maintenance needs and execute repairs

Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Computer skills, including documents and spreadsheets needed for computer maintenance management system

Nice to have

Solid modeling CAD, Solidworks, or similar

Ability to speak Spanish

Forklift experience

Physical Requirements

Transport furniture, supplies, and other materials (up to 50 lbs. at a time)

Standing for 90% of the day

Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles, and the like

Operating machinery and power tools; operating motor vehicles and heavy equipment like forklifts or scissor lifts

Other activities: climbing, balancing, kneeling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, repetitive motion, grasping, and feeling

Ability to work in noisy environments, in low and high temperatures with exposure to outdoor elements like precipitation, wind, and flooding

Exposure to hazardous materials like paint, dust, oil, and cleaning chemicals.

Work Environment/Hours/ Compensation

This position is an onsite, full-time, non-exempt, in our Sausalito Factory. Occasionally, you may need to work or travel to our San Francisco Factory and Showroom located in The Mission District. You must have transportation to travel between our two locations. This position reports to the Sausalito Facilities Manager. The hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, or on an agreed-upon schedule with the manager. This position pays $35.00 - $37.50 hourly based on experience.
