DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Previous paid writing/ journalism experience strongly preferred.
Excellent writing and editing skills are necessary. The “101” brand excels at translating complex government benefits program information into plain, everyday language that is easily read and understood by the average person. The ability to step outside an academic voice and write in plain language is absolutely essential.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are important. The role requires the ability to quickly build rapport and interview Subject Matter Experts in a professional and polite manner, while maintaining control of the conversation and gathering all necessary information.
The ability to understand complex policies and government programs is required. Specific knowledge of disability policy and benefits programs is a plus, but not required.
The contractor must have the capacity for independent analysis and problem solving, with limited day-to-day supervision. Because of the limited supervision, a highly motivated, curious, self-starter will be most successful in this role.
We are a small team. Flexibility and adaptability are key.
The contractor must have a demonstrated ability to meet deadlines, manage your own workflow, and communicate about work with a team.
Bachelors Degree in a related field is strongly preferred; Related fields could include English, Journalism, Public Policy, Social Work, or Communications.
