The Cook is responsible for preparing menu items under the guidance of the Executive Chef and the Chef de Cuisine. The Cook plays a vital role in upholding our food safety and cleanliness standards. In addition, the Cook will assist in restocking items, sanitizing equipment, and plating meals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (Include the following. Other duties may be assigned)
Prepare ingredients then cook and assemble dishes per the Executive Chef’s recipes.
Perform portion control and minimize waste to keep cost within forecasted range.
Ensure that all dishes are prepared in a timely manner by restocking ingredients at workstation and meeting prep times to ensure smooth delivery
Set up and clean station according to restaurant protocol
Maintain a clean work station area, including kitchen equipment, tables, and shelves
Comply with applicable sanitary, health, and personal hygiene standards
Ensure quality and freshness of ingredients and products
Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Chef de Cuisine or Executive Chef
QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education and/or Experience
Must Have High School Education or equivalent
Minimum 2 years culinary experience cooking comparable quality recipes
Preferred Education and/or Experience
Culinary Institute education, Formal Apprenticeship, Multiple Stagier or equivalent
3+ years culinary experience cooking in an upscale restaurant
Pre-Requisites
Authorized to work in the U.S.
At least 21 years of age
Must have exceptional knife skill
Must be able to work independently

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Job Type: Hourly, not-exempt
Status: Part-Time
Work Location: In-person at Hotel San Luis Obispo
Hours: 20 - 30 hours per week; 8-10 hour shifts working late afternoon into night, shifts will be weekday and weekends; must have weekend and holiday availability
The budgeted hourly rate that Hotel San Luis Obispo reasonably expects to pay for this position is $19.00 to $22.00 per hour. Rate of pay offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience; the budget for the position; and the application of consistent pay practices at the hotel.

Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity. Must be able to respond quickly and efficiently during periods when many orders arrive at station at the same time.
