We’re looking for people who are determined to make life better for people around the world.Position Summary: The Associate Vice President, Business Development will lead the team identifying, evaluating, pursuing, and executing business development transactions to expand and enhance the oncology portfolio. The transactions will range from mergers and acquisitions to asset in/out-licensing and R&D collaborations, spanning preclinical through commercial-stage programs, covering all cancer treatment modalities.Roles and Responsibilities of the position:

Keep a close pulse on the external oncology landscape (via news, medical meetings, etc.)

Propose new ideas for consideration, provide scientific and business editorialization on the opportunities, manage communication/relationships with external parties, and see deals through the stages of diligence, negotiation, and signing

Regular, high visibility interfacing with internal leadership (oncology, cross-TA, Lilly executives) and external parties (other companies, investment firms, banks)

Participation in cross-functional oncology meetings, representing and owning business development’s role in portfolio shaping

Building trust and credibility with internal and external stakeholders

Effective management of a team, including several direct reports

Agency, ownership, clear communication, relationship-building, decision-making agility, and sound scientific and business judgment are key to success in this position

Required Qualifications:

Strong scientific acumen and understanding of drug development and biopharma deal structuring / financing

Minimum 7 years’ work experience in the biotech / pharma sector

Exceptional communication, interpersonal / relationship-building skills, scientific & business judgment

Highly organized with a proven ability to think through and execute on plans to answer complex questions; ability to adjust with agility to changing priorities & fact patterns.

Proactive and collaborative, with a proven ability to work effectively across domains (scientific, legal, financial)

Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team setting

Additional Preferences:

PhD, MS, or BS

Experience in oncology (across modalities and program stages)

Previous experience managing direct reports

Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance).
