Job DescriptionSenior Scientist – Discovery Pharmaceutical Sciences (DPS)Site: South San Francisco (SSF), CAPosition DescriptionOur company's Scientists in Discovery Pharmaceutical Sciences (DPS) has the exciting opportunity to work on multi-disciplinary Discovery teams to help identify, characterize, and successfully transition quality compounds from discovery to development. Towards this end, DPS scientists:
Work closely with Medicinal Chemists to build key structure-property relationships across multiple drug modalities to identify optimal candidates for development; Emphasis on small molecules
Design enabling preclinical formulations (drug delivery) for pharmacology and toxicology studies
Optimize preclinical drug candidates’ solid state phase (stable polymorph ID, salt selection)
Deliver key data sets for development candidate evaluation (Developability Assessment).
Working at our company's Discovery Innovation Hub in South San Francisco, the candidate will represent DPS on discovery teams, carrying out the activities described above to progress compounds through all phases of discovery and their transition to development. The candidate should have a creative passion for identifying and executing on effective drug delivery technologies and pharmaceutics as well as a track record of driving results and rapidly progressing from idea conception to in-vitro & in-vivo testing. As part of our company's emphasis on innovation, the successful candidate also will actively explore and engage external (commercial and academic) opportunities for new technologies related to drug delivery and pharmaceutics. The candidate must excel in a team environment, where they also will collaborate with CMC development functions (preformulation, chemistry, formulation, analytical, and biopharmaceutics research) in order to translate early data sets to clinical formulation development and ultimately drug products.The candidate will be expected to effectively present their work at team meetings as well as promote our company's science through publications and presentations/lectures. The successful candidate must be able to balance their core laboratory research, team representation, and participation in key initiatives.The position reports to the local DPS team leader in SSF. The candidate will effectively collaborate with the Discovery Pharmaceutical Sciences team on the east coast in order to identify and advance programs and key departmental strategic and cultural initiatives. The candidate will be responsible for maintaining a safe DPS lab and driving improvements in daily lab experimentation.Position Qualifications:Education Minimum Requirement:
Ph.D. in pharmaceutical science, chemistry, or related science is highly preferred.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
0-8 years’ experience in a pharmaceutical preclinical development or discovery organization. Hands-on experience in drug delivery (i.e., Solubilization, nanoparticles, etc) and solid state phase characterization is highly preferred. Additional sub-specialty experience in biologics and parenterals is also desirable.
The successful candidate will have excellent leadership, interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills along with strengths in delivering results on firm deadlines in support of discovery/development programs. Demonstrated disposition towards recognition in the field, creativity and innovation via a strong publication/presentation record is also highly desirable.
