Make a meaningful contribution to advancing scientific discovery, and improving global health outcomes.Discover Impactful Work:Your role as a Staff Optical Systems Engineer requires expertise in optical systems and provides technical leadership for new product development and innovation in genetic analysis instrumentation.What will you do?
Understand customers and passionately represent their needs in optical system product requirements
Partner with product management to translate customer needs into optical system requirements
Design optical systems
Develop optical models, analyze optical tolerance stack-ups, and lead sensitivity analysis
Partner with the Operations team leading the design transfer
How will you get here:EducationBS/MS/Ph.D. degree or equivalent experience in an Optical Engineering field, Applied Physics, Electrical/Mechanical EngineeringExperience
Ph.D. or equivalent experience with 3+ years of industry experience, or MS or equivalent experience with 5+ years of industry experience, or BS or equivalent experience with 7+ years of industry experience.
Track record of developing moderate complexity RUO instrumentation
Has been optics lead or sub-team optical lead through product development cycles which incorporate optical imaging systems
Experience building, and maintaining optics lab
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Deep understanding of fluorescence-based optical detection systems
Solid foundation and hands-on experience in optics, optical physics, optical instrumentation, and system troubleshooting
Experience with optical modeling tools, including ZEMAX
Knowledge of materials and processes used in the manufacture of optical components
Familiar with the key technical elements of genetic analyzers
Able to champion and align collaborators on technical trade-offs relative to optical solutions
Compensation and BenefitsThe salary range estimated for this position based in California is $129,400.00–$172,500.00.This position may also be eligible to receive a variable annual bonus based on company, team, and/or individual performance results in accordance with company policy.
