Join EAG Laboratories as a Scientist specializing in Thermal Analysis and Materials Characterization.   In this role, you will perform hands-on materials characterization, interpret and report high-quality analytical data, and work directly with clients to support real-world technical investigations. You will discuss thermal and mechanical analysis data and experimental design with clients, connecting analytical results to broader materials, manufacturing, reliability, and product development challenges. Our clients include leading technology companies, consumer product manufacturers, biotech companies, and aerospace suppliers working in the early phases of product development. Scientists in our Materials Characterization group operate advanced analytical instrumentation and collaborate closely with peers to understand technical problems, determine the appropriate analytical approach, and provide meaningful insight into material behavior and performance. We are particularly interested in scientists with extensive, multi-year hands-on experience with one or more of the following techniques:DMA (Dynamic Mechanical Analysis)TMA (Thermomechanical Analysis)RheometryExperience with additional thermal characterization techniques, including DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) and TGA (Thermogravimetric Analysis), is highly desired, as is experience with other polymer analysis techniques such as GPC (Gel Permeation Chromatography), UV-Vis spectroscopy and FTIR (Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy). We are looking for scientists who are comfortable managing all stages of the analytical process, including experimental design, sample preparation, selecting and optimizing test conditions, operating and troubleshooting instrumentation, acquiring and interpreting data, and writing technical reports. More importantly, you should be able to look beyond the data itself and explain what the results mean for a client's material, process, or product. This position requires a strong technical foundation in materials science, polymer science, chemistry, or a related discipline, along with practical experience understanding the thermal, mechanical, viscoelastic, physical and chemical characteristics of materials.A typical day on the Materials Characterization team may include:Processing and interpreting previously acquired thermal or mechanical analysis data and writing technical reports.Planning upcoming analyses and determining appropriate testing conditions.Preparing samples, setting up instrumentation, and acquiring new data.Evaluating thermal transitions, dimensional changes, mechanical response, or rheological behavior based on the analytical technique being used.In parallel, you may also:Participate in internal group meetings to coordinate instrument use and meet client deadlines.Speak directly with customers about previous results or questions regarding future analyses.Work with EAG's commercial team and customers to understand technical problems and determine how our analytical capabilities can help address them. You will also likely work on longer-term projects, such as:Developing or improving analytical methods for new or challenging materials.Producing technical or marketing materials or contributing to scientific papers.Working with internal support teams and instrument vendors to troubleshoot and optimize equipment.Developing expertise in adjacent materials characterization techniques. These activities require strong communication and collaboration with your colleagues. You'll often have multiple client projects moving at the same time, so organization, communication, and teamwork are important. This is a fast-moving environment where scientists share expertise, help one another solve problems, and work together to help our clients meet their technical goals. Along the way, you'll also get to do a lot of interesting science.
